The purpose of this study is to 1) understand the environmental condition (e.g., availability of equipment and public facilities) on actual leisure/recreational activities in Korean society, given recreation programs (for elderly people-centered programs), financial support from government, and elderly people`s perception about leisure/recreation programs based on leisure/recreation-related policy of which is one of Korean social welfare policies, and then 2) to provide several suggestions in the improvement of leisure/recreation policy once we analyzed problems. The first suggestion on the policy about leisure/recreation for elderly people is that more facilities (e.g., accessibility and availability of public facilities) should be provided. Secondly, newly modified and improved leisure/recreation programs which are enjoyable and appropriate to old adults should be in the process provided with varieties. As the third key, the institutional support from government to foster professionals/leader who can expertly lead elderly people physically, psychologically, and socially to get more active should be required in near future. For fourth, extending the national budget for leisure/recreation project for elderly people. Finally, the fifth step to transforming the elderly people`s negative perception into positive one about the current policy is that government should fuel the fire to motivate elderly people actively to participate in leisure/recreational programs, socially to enjoy their activities, and consistently to maintain their recreational program participation. To do so, the understanding of actual leisure/recreation programs providing in present and the establishment of well-organized plans about improving the policy for elderly people will be inevitable.
