When draining takes place through an axially located drain port in a cylindrical tank with initial rotation imparted, a vortex with an air core occurs. By providing the bottom surface inclined, the air core can be prevented, if the incline angle is above a particular value. In this study, inclined drain hole is tested to found the air core suppressing reason. Also for a critical suppressing bottom plate angle, different reduced the inclined plate area than a cylindrical tank diameter is tested. The experimental results show that the inclined drain hole cannot suppress air. The reduced inclined bottom plate cases effective to suppress air core but not completely eliminate air core. The study is carried out with different values of incline angle using PIV and measured velocity distribution.
