본 연구는 한 중년여성이 자신의 진로를 찾고 만들어가는 과정을 질적연구방법으로 탐구하였다. 그 결과, 연구참여자의 진로구성과정은 생존을 위하여 업(業)을 선택하고, 주어진 일을 잘 수행함으로써 직업세계에서 적응하는 직업적응과정 이상의 것으로 밝혀졌다. 진로구성과정은 진정한 ‘나(Self)’를 찾아가는 여정이었고, 지속적인 선택과 ‘행함’을 통하여 자신의 ‘있음’을 이해해가는 실존의 과정이었다. 연구참여자는 진로를 찾고 만들어가는 생의 여정에서 고유한 자신의 삶으로의 복귀를 실행하였고, 가능성을 향한 자기실현을 실천하였다. 본 연구결과는 ‘일’을 ‘업(業)’과 다르게 실존적 관점에서 이해하여야 한다는 것을 시사한다. ‘일’은 실존적 ‘행함’으로써 삶의 의미를 만들어가는 통로이고, 자기실현으로 지향된 실존방식이다. 뿐만 아니라 생의 진로는 한 번의 선택으로 분명해지는 것이 아니라 지금-여기에서 결단과 실행이 축적됨으로써 만들어지는 잠재성과 가능성 사이의 요동으로 펼쳐지는 과정인 것이다. 이에 본 연구자는 진로상담이 개인의 적성과 직업세계의 특성을 파악하여 연결시키는 선형적 작업을 넘어서 진정한 ‘나(Self)를 찾아가는 과정에서 ‘일’의 의미를 만들어가는 방향으로 전환될 필요성이 있음을 제안한다. This study with qualitative research method explores the process of a middle-aged woman who finds and constructs her career path. As a result, career constitution process of a research participant choosing a career to make a living and carrying out what she is supposed to do, turned out to be more than just a job adaptation process in the workforce. Career constitution process is a journey in search of genuine self and a existential process in which the existence of self is understood by sustained choices and actions. The research participant on the life journey of finding career path sought to return to her intrinsic life and practiced self-realization toward possibility. The result of this study suggests that work being different from calling needs to be understood anew in the existential perspective. work is not only a passage which makes the meaning of life by existential actoins but also a existential method heading toward self-realization. Not only that, career path is a process which doesnt get obvious by one choice but is unfolded by shaking between potential energy and possibilities accumulated by here and now decisions and actions. Thus, the researcher of this study suggests that counselling for career path should go beyond the linear task which figures out a persons aptitude, the features of the workforce and connects both. And there is the need for a paradigm shift in totally understanding the clients life and in making the meaning of a work in the process of finding genuine self.
