The effects of the data range to process, the resistor type, wire type, size of the test section on the measurement of the effective thermal conductivity are analyzed. The the data range and temperature coefficient of the resistor are found to affect the results while the wire type does not. The radius of the test section is compared with the thermal penetration depth to make sure not to be affected by it.

In this study, the effects of natural convection and temperature data range selection on the thermal conductivity measurement using transient hot-wire method are analyzed by both experimentally and computationally. The natural convection flow field is a function of the fluid properties such as dynamic viscosity and thermal expansion coefficient which varies with fluid temperature. It is found that there is the best temperature data range to use to measure the fluid thermal conductivity and it varies with the impact of natural convection.
