The performance of police officers is important to keep social order in Korea and in the same time, the capability of police officers is also significant. Therefore, employment of police who is fully able to do performance of police officers plays a crucial rule in terms of building public trust. Considering this backdrop, this study examines the current employment of police, finding problems with this system and then suggests improvement plan. Especially, this study is designed to focus on problems of police constable employment system and suggest better ways. Problems of open employment for police constable include whether it is right or not to adapt subjects-Korean, Social study, Science and Mathematics as employment tests for prospective police constable in order to encourage those who graduate from high schools. Second, it can be a problem, if those who pass the test are relevant to do police performance because such test subjects as mentioned above can be alternative to existing test subjects(except English and Korea history). Third, their turnover who can not be adept in police performance is a kind of serious problems. In order to alienate these problems caused by change of test subjects in police employment system, first of all, subjects mentioned above like Korean, Social study, Science, and Mathematics should be excluded. Although it is partially understandable that the government implements job encouragement policy for high school graduate, this changed system could not help to employ prospective police officers who are required to be professional. Second, extent of special employment should be wider than now, because police performance should not be regarded as general concept of other jobs, so it is required to employ those who are quite relevant to police performance. Third, it is necessary to reform test subjects that are relevant to select more talented people. This study is limited to the test subject for police employment, but when the police, even partially, improve the current system that is criticized, it could be beneficient to employ more police officers who can receive public trust.
