Ameroid Constrictor를 이용한 개에서의 단순 간외성 간문맥전신단락증의 치료

A 2-year-old 4.0-kg female Shih Tzu with history of hematemesis and melena was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul national University for further evaluation and treatment. During physical examination, the dog revealed mild depression, dry mucous membrane and abdominal pain. Hematologic values were normal and serum chemical values showed increased serum bile acid (53.47 umol/l, preprandial), fasting serum ammonia concentration (184 g/dl), alanine transferase (98 U/L), alkaline phosphatase (871 U/L) and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (21 U/L), and decreased blood urea nitrogen (4 mg/dl), total protein (4.1 g/dl) and albumin (1.2 g/dl). Microhepatica was shown in abdominal radiography. During the ultrasound examination, dilated tortuous vein communicating with caudal vena cava ws observed near the stomach. Intraoperative jejunal vein portography was performed during laparotomy to confirm the location and size of shunt vessel. According to history taking, physical examination, hematologic and serum chemical examination and radiographic study, it was diagnosed as single extrahepatic portosystemic shunt. The anomalous vessel (7 mm, o.d.) that enter the caudal vena cava from the left gastric vein, near the level of the diaphragm, was identified. A Ameroid constrictor (5 mm, i.d.) was applied to the shunting vessel near the caudal vena cava. Hematologic and serum chemical values recovered gradually and were revealed normal values 4 months after surgery. Four month after surgery serum bile acids concentrations were 0.56 $\mu$mol/l (preprandial) and 18.45 umol/l (postprandial). Abdominal radiograph showed normal gastric axis and it revealed normal size of the liver. Fine texture and increased echogenecity of liver and enlargement of portal vein were shown in ultrasonography. Single extrahepatic portosystemic shunt might be treated surgically using Ameroid constrictor.

A 1.2 kg, five-month-old, female domestic short-hair cat was referred to Seoul National University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital with a history of vomiting immediatley after eating. Clinical signs were depression, anorexia, severe dehydration and vomiting since weaning. According to history taking, physical examination, complete blood count, serum chemical profile and contrast radiographic study, it was diagnosed as congenital sliding esophageal hiatal hernia. Diaphragmatic plication, esophagopexy and left-sided belt-loop gastropexy were performed. Ranitidine (2 mg/kg, IV, q12h) and sucralfate suspension (20 mg/kg, PO, q6h) were administered with low-fat liquified diet to treat reflux esophagitis. Clinical signs related to esophageal hiatal hernia disappeared immediately after surgical treatment and did not recur for 4 months.

This study was designed to verify the shelf-life of a freeze dried-block type of convenience food for rockfish Sebastes schlegeli seaweed soup product stored at different storing temperatures (25, 35, and 45°C) for 5 months. The polyunsaturated:saturated fatty acid ratio of the product stored at 25°C was higher than that of products stored at 35°C and 45°C for 5 months. The colorimetric assessment indicated a noticeable decrease in the brightness of product color after 5months of storage at 35°C and 45°C. Increased storage temperature and time negatively affected the product color. The products stored at 35°C and/or 45°C for more than 3 months tended to be more yellowish-red in color than those stored at 25°C for shorter periods. No disease-causing microorganisms, including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, posing health hazards to the human, were detected on food safety evaluation, regardless of storage conditions. Based on food visual shelf life simulator the shelf life of the rockfish seaweed soup was estimated approximately 22 months, considering the data from yellowness the safety factor of 0.7.

조피볼락(Sebastes schlegeli) 치어 사료내 어분대체원으로서 갈색거저리(Tenebrio molitor)의 이용성

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of partial replacement of fishmeal (FM) protein in a practical diet for rockfish Sebastes schlegeli juveniles with mealworm Tenebrio molitor meal (WM), in terms of growth performance, feed utilization, whole body composition and hematological parameters. Four isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated to contain 8, 16, 24 and 32% WM (designated as WM8, WM16, WM24 and WM32). A FM-based diet without WM inclusion was used as a control. Triplicate groups of rockfish ($2.6{\pm}0.07g$) were hand fed one of the experimental diets to visual satiation twice a day for 8 weeks. Weight gain of fish fed the WM32 diet was lower than that of control. No significant differences were found in daily feed intake, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio. The whole-body protein content of fish fed WM0 and WM8 diets were significantly higher than that of fish fed WM32 diet. No statistical differences were observed in hematological parameters. These results indicate that WM has potential as alternative to FM in practical diets for juvenile rockfish and can be used at an inclusion level of up to 24% without having a significant negative effects on growth and feed efficiency.

Two female Yorkshire terrier was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University. In case 1, clinical signs were vomiting, anorexia and weight loss. Cystic intraabdominal mass was identified in radiographic and ultrasonographic examination. In case 2, clinical sign was abdominal distension. In radiographic and ultrasonographic examination, cellular ascites and bilateral intraabdominal masses next to kidneys were observed. Many clusters of glandular epithelial cells with anisocytosis, anisokaryosis, high N:C ratio coarse chromatin and prominent nucleoli were shown in cytologic examination of sanguineous ascites. In all two cases exploratory laparotomy was performed and enlarged ovaries were observed (Rt: 6$\times$5$\times$5 cm and Lt: 3$\times$2$\times$1 cm in case 1 and 3$\times$2$\times$1 cm bilaterally in case 2). After ovariohysterectomy histopathologic examinations were performed. Histopathologically the masses were diagnosed as ovarian adenocarcinoma and ovarian cystadenocarcinoma in case 1 and case 2, respectively. In both dogs no further chemotherapy was carried out. These two dogs had no gross evidence of tumor recurrence at the time of 3 months after tumor resection, but long-term follow-up might be needed.

A four-year-old female Pekingese dog was presented with intermittent ambulatory hindlimb lamenes andsevere back pain. The course of the disease was acute and static and 5 days pased by until presentation. In neurologicalexamination, severe back pain and slightly decreased proprioception in right hindlimb were shown. In radiographicexamination, radiopacity was increased at T10-11 intervertebral disc space. According to the history taking, neurologicalexamination and radiographic examination, it was tentatively diagnosed as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). ConservativeGV-6, GV-7, BL-18, BL-19, BL-40 and GB-34. Dry needlings rested for 20 minutes. Just after the first acupuncturetreatment back pain was significantly decreased. With additional acupuncture treatment, all the clinical signs were notobserved. It is considered that conservative therapy including traditional acupuncture, medication and cage rest mightbe the first choice of therapeutic method for Grade I or I IVDD in dogs.

Dietary inclusion of mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) meal as an alternative protein source in practical diets for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry

Background: An 8-week feeding trial was designed to evaluate the potential of yellow mealworm (MW; Tenebrio molitor) as a locally available nutrient-rich feedstuff for rainbow trout fry (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Methods: Triplicate groups of fish (mean ± SE; 1.11 ± 0.01 g) were assigned to each of the five isonitrogenous and isocaloric practical diets containing graded level of a full fat MW (0, 7, 14, 21, and 28%) at the expense of fish meal (designated as MW0, MW7, MW14, MW21, and MW28, respectively). Results: Fish growth performance in terms of weight gain and specific growth rate significantly increased with increasing dietary MW level up to 14% and then declined when dietary MW levels further increased to 28%. Significantly higher protein efficiency ratio and lower feed conversion ratio were found in fish fed with diets containing MW compared to fish fed the control MW0. Myeloperoxidase activity was significantly higher in fish fed MW7 diet compared to fish fed the MW0 diet. Fish fed the MW14 and MW28 diets had significantly higher lysozyme activities than those fed the MW0 diet. Conclusions: Overall, the efficacy of MW as promising alternative to fish meal in practical diets for rainbow trout fry has been proved not only in relation to growth rates and feed utilization, but also from the viewpoint of immunopotentiation effects.

Amperometric Detection of Bisphenol-A on Laser Fabricated Capillary Electrophoresis Device

In this study, poly dimethyl siloxane (PDMS) capillary or microchannel electrophoresis devices were fabricated and tested by laser writer. A programmable laser writer was controlled to make microchannel on PDMS mold instead of a conventional photolithography with SU-8. Indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes for electrochemical detection of bisphenol-A were made by photolithography. UV-ozone treatment was used to bind laser patterned PDMS mold and patterned ITO glass. During electrophoresis, changes of current measured at working electrode were recorded with time by source measure unit. The peak current representing for detection of bisphenol-A was analyzed and compared with devices fabricated by laser and conventional lithography, respectively. Relationships among microchannel size, separation voltage, and peak currents were established.
