기독교환경교육의 목적은 우선 환경을 창조세계 혹은 피조물로 인식하는 데서 출발한다. 환경문제는 인간이 자연을 대상으로 보고 착취하며 정복하는 차원에서 발생하는 인간과 환경의 관계로 인식하는 데서 그치는 것이 아니다. 인간관계가 형식적 도구적인 관계로 왜곡되면서 상대방을 배려하지 않으며 자신의 허물조차 상대에게 전가하는 인간간의 문제도 환경문제의 원인이 되고 있음을 알아야 한다. 자연과 인간 즉 하나님의 피조물을 하나님의 축복 받은 존재로 여기지 않고 이용대상으로 삼는 근본적인 원인은 하나님과의 관계를 거부하고 불순종하기 때문이다. 창조세계의 조화와 아름다움이 파괴되는 근본적인 이유는 하나님 중심으로 살지 아니하기 때문이다. 적인 사고방법으로 자연을 다스렸기 때문에 자연 환경 즉 창조세계가 파괴된 것이다. 창조세계는 하나님이 지으신 모든 만물과 인간이 포함된다. 인간과 자연의 관계가 적대적인 황폐함으로 치닫는 이유를 인간간의 관계와 하나님과의 관계를 통해 살펴보고 기독교환경교육에서 다루어야할 내용을 정리해본다. 마지막으로 창조질서를 회복하기 위해 교육의목적으로 삼아야 할 일과 안식 예배의 의미를 분석해본다.
Expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factors A, C and D in GastricAdenocarcinoma

Background : Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C and VEGF-D are novel growth factors that regulate lymphatic vessel growth. This study was designed to examine whether the expression of three VEGF family members, VEGF-A, VEGF-C and VEGF-D are associated with the clinicopathologic parameters, especially with lymph node metastasis, in advanced gastric carcinomas. Methods : Immunohistochemical staining was performed for VEGF-A, VEGF-C, and VEGF-D in the surgically resected specimens from 102 patients with advanced gastric carcinoma. The mRNA expressions of the three VEGF family members were assessed in 16 cases of tumor tissues and their corresponding non-neoplastic tissues. Results : Of the 102 gastric carcinomas, 74 (73%), 82 (80%), and 34 (33%) cases showed cytoplasmic immuno-reactivity for VEGF-A, VEGF-C and VEGF-D, respectively. Both VEGF-A and VEGF-C expressions were associated with lymphatic invasion and lymph node metastasis (p<0.05), but the VEGF-D expression was not associated with them (p>0.05). In the tumor tissue, VEGF-C mRNA expression was greater, while VEGF-D mRNA expression was lower than in the non-neoplatic tissue adjacent to the tumor. Conclusions : VEGF-A and VEGF-C may play important roles for the lymphatic spread of gastric carcinoma. We suggest that neutralizing both VEGF-A and VEGF-C may be reguired to block lymph node metastasis.

Histiocytomas have rarely been reported in the lungs. We report an unusual benign pulmonary histiocytoma in a 45-year-old man and discuss the differential diagnosis. Chest CT showed a well-defined solitary pulmonary nodule of approximately 3 cm in size in the posterobasal segment of the right lower lobe. Posterolateral thoracotomy and wedge resection was performed. Gross examination revealed a mass, measuring 2.2×2.1 cm that had a circumscribed margin within the lung parenchyma. Microscopically, the tumor was entirely composed of large polygonal to round cells with a few chronic inflammatory cells. These tumor cells contained abundant cytoplasm which was either granular, eosinophilic or foamy. Immunohistochemically, these cells were diffusely positive for CD68 and focally positive for 1-antitrypsin, but negative for cytokeratin, vimentin, and smooth muscle actin.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is characterized by a clonal proliferation of myofibroblasic spindle cells, and this is accompanied by a lymphoplasmacytic infiltration. In the majority of cases, this disease has occurred in the lungs and only 9 cases of IMT in the breast have been previously reported. We report here on an IMT in a 25-year-old-female who presented with a palpable mass in the right breast. Histologically, it was characterized by plump spindle cells admixed with prominent inflammation, that was composed of lymphocytes and plasma cells. Immunohistochemically, the spindle cells were positive for vimentin and α-smooth muscle actin.

Background : Vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) is a novel growth factor that regulates lymphangiogenesis and/or angiogenesis via binding to the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 (VEGFR-3) or VEGFR-2. Recent studies have suggested that VEGF-C may play a role in lymph node metastasis. This study was conducted to examine whether the expression of VEGF-C is associated with the clinicopathologic parameters, and especially lymph node metastasis, of invasive ductal carcinoma. Methods : Immunohistochemical staining was performed for VEGF-C and CD31 in the surgically resected specimens from 83 patients with invasive breast carcinoma. Results : Of the 83 breast carcinomas, 61 (74%) cases showed cytoplasmic VEGF-C immunoreactivity. VEGF-C expression was associated with lymph node metastasis (p=0.03), but it did not correlate with tumor size, the histologic grade, and the presence of estrogen receptor or progesteron receptor. The mean microvessel density in the cases without VEGF-C expression was 51.9±30.1 and it was 72.9±33.0 in the cases with 2+ expression for VEGF-C (p=0.07). Conclusions : This study suggests that VEGF-C expression may have an association with lymph node metastasis in the patients with breast carcinoma.

Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy has become the procedure of choice for initial diagnosis of adrenal masses. However, there have been relatively few reports discussing the FNA cytologic features of adrenal cortical carcinoma. Recently, we experienced a case of FNA cytology of bilateral adrenal cortical carcinoma in a 61-year old man. The smear revealed loosely cohesive pleomorphic tumor cells with hemorrhagic and necrotic background. The tumor cells showed oval to spindle hyperchromatic nuclei and prominent nucleoli with frequent mitotic figures. The cytoplasm of tumor cells was relatively abundant and sometimes vacuolated. These cytologic findings were interpreted as an ad renal cortical carcinoma, undifferentiated pattern.
