정명일,정봉남,이영란,김재영,최이진,박윤점 한국육종학회 2004 한국육종학회지 Vol.36 No.5
A new graft cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) cultivar Keumhong was developed from a cross IG9331 and Wonkyo G1-13 of G. mihanovichii by in vitro grafting and line selection at National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration in 2000. Characteristics trials were carried out three times from 1999 to 2000. The color of body was red, and that of tubercle was red-yellow. Flat round globe had 8 to 10 ribs with medium depth. Easy to graft due to short spine. Increase of the diameter of body globe was similar to that of Hongwall. Propagation ability was good as to setting 18.8 tubercles. Characteristics of the cultivar can be maintained by vegetative propagation, and growers should pay attention to protection from strong sun light and virus infection. The cultivar was applied for a variety protection and was released to commercial growers in 2001.
A New White and Pink Graft Cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) Cultivar, "Baekya"
정명일,정봉남,이동우,김재영,배종향 한국육종학회 2004 한국육종학회지 Vol.36 No.5
A new graft cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) cultivar Baekya was developed from a crossing Sunhong with mixed pollens of 10 unknown cultivars of G. mihanovichii by in vitro grafting and line selection at National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration in 1997. Characteristics trials were carried out three times from 1998 to 1999. It had double color. The color of body and tubercles was clear and peculiar color of white-pink. Flat round globe had 8 to 10 ribs with shallow depth. Tubercles cover the body globe with growing. Spine was short and straight with grayish white. Propagation ability was excellent as to setting as many as 20.3 tubercles. All characteristics of the cultivar can be maintained by vegetative propagation, and growers should pay attention to protection from strong sun light and virus infection. The cultivar was applied for a variety protection and was released to commercial growers in 2001.
A New Darkish Red Grafting Cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) Cultivar, "Seolhong"
정명일,정봉남,김재영 한국육종학회 2004 한국육종학회지 Vol.36 No.1
A new grafting cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) cultivar Seolhong was developed by the National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration in 1999. In spite of the requirement of the diverse colors of G. mihanovichii cultivars due to the diverse preference of consumers in world-wide, most of the prevalent domestic cultivars are red, and also they have shortage in transportation and disease resistance. In order to make up for those weak points, total of 400 seeds produced from crossing between IG9322 and IG9329 were sown in vitro in 1996. Successfully germinated 86 seedlings grafted onto Hylocereus trigonus in vitro were cultured. After 180 days those were acclimatized in glasshouse. In 1997, 9 lines were preliminary selected by their performance such as globe and tubercle color, shape, rib and spine characteristics, and growth vigor. And finally line code 950521V3 was selected with their uniformity and excellence in color, shape and growth vigor. The selected line was named as Seolhong. The cultivar was applied for a variety protection and was released to commercial growers by auction in 2000. Characteristics of Seolhong were as follows: The body and the tubercles were all darkish red color. Shape was flat round. The cultivar had 8 to 9 deep ribs with strong image. Brown-colored spines were short and straight with white flocks on areola. Increasement of the diameter of the body globe was faster than that of cv. Blackruby as to reach 27.7 mm 10 months after planting. Propagation ability was excellent as to set as many as 13.4 tubercles. Characteristics of this cultivar can be maintained by vegetative propagation and cultivators should pay attention to protection from strong sun light and virus infection.
A New Yellow Color Grafting Cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) Cultivar, "Hukwang"
정명일,정봉남,김재영 한국육종학회 2004 한국육종학회지 Vol.36 No.1
A new grafting cactus (Gymnocalycium mihanovichii) cultivar Hukwang was developed by the National Horticultural Research Institute, Rural Development Administration in 1999. Total of 500 seeds produced from crossing between IG9311 and IG9320 were sown in vitro in 1995. Successfully germinated 184 seedlings grafted onto Hylocereus trigonus in vitro were cultured. After 180 days those were acclimatized in glasshouse. In 1996, 2 lines were preliminary selected by their performance such as globe and tubercle color, shape, rib and spine characteristics, and growth vigor. And finally line code 950521V3 was selected with excellence in shape and growth vigor. The selected line was named as Hukwang. The cultivar was applied for a variety protection and was released to commercial growers by auction in 2000. Characteristics of Hukwang was as follows; The color of body and tubercles wasl yellow with red pattern at apex, but scarlet at early growth stage. Round glove had 8 to 9 ribs with projected edge. Shape was round. Spine was long and upright with brown color. Increasement of the diameter of the body globe was faster than that of Orange as to reach 39.7 mm compared to 35.7 mm of the comparison cultivar on 10 months after planting. Preference for the commercial growers was high, although the average number of tubercles was low as 8.0 compared to 9.9 of comparison cv. Orange. Characteristic of the cultivar can be maintained by vegetative propagation, and cultivators should pay attention to protection from strong sun light and virus infection.
