Dual mass flywheel (DMF) is a damper installed between the two flywheels. Its role is to reduce transmission’s rattle and booming noises, and vibration by the exciting force of engine. The DMF uses a straight line coil spring that avoids elevated friction with the primary flywheel. We used the multistage design of spring guide for good performance and the durability. The spring guide is an injection molded plastic component. Due to its relatively higher thickness, shrinkage induced deflection is a common problem of concern. Thus with the help of MOLDFLOW simulation tool and Taguchi method, the various process design parameters are optimized to reduce the deflection. Further, with the aid of signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and L9 Taguchi orthogonal design, we affirm that this study provides an efficient way to fix the deflection related problems of spring guide.
