Most of the thirteen substations in operation in the metropolitan area were installed around the year 2000, and since water cooling methods are used to directly withdraw heat from transformer oils, a stable supply of electric power is required through optimal maintenance of facilities. The water cooling tower installed outdoors, which uses the water supply as sprinkler water, experiences the most problems. Since more than 90% of the cooling water is reused, the dissolved composition in the water becomes concentrated due to long operating hours, and impurities dissolve in the water due to air flowing in from the outside, forming hard scales on the outer surface of the cooling tube, and in extreme cases, reacting with the tube material composition, leading to corrosion. As a result, not only is cooling efficiency lowered, but in extreme cases the cooling tube must be replaced. In this study, the characteristics and composition of the scales formed on the cooling tube were analyzed and corrosion characteristics of material types were identified in order to find an efficient maintenance method for cooling rubes. In addition, the degree of dissolution of various chemicals were investigated during the removal of scales that have been formed.

Large and single-grain Y-Ba-Cu-O(YBCO) bulk superconductors have been fabricated by using a seeded infiltration and growth method. $Y_2BaCuO_5$(Y211) precursor pellets and $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$(Y123) liquid source pellets were prepared using commercial powder and were processed by infiltration and growth method to achieve low pore and high trapped field property. The superconductor properties of the single crystal are measured and analyzed in relation with the density and size of the Y211 particle in the Y123 matrix. An optimum processing condition is suggested based on the analyzed results.

An environmental geochemical survey of heavy metal distribution in marine surface sediments around the ocean of Samcheonpo coal-fired power plant was conducted to investigate the possibility of coal-ash leakage from ash pond and the associated heavy metal pollution in sedimental deposits due to the operation of the coal-fired power plant. The X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD) analysis showed that the main leakage point of coal-ash was limited to a single site of the first ash pond. It also appeared that the amounts of organic carbon and metal elements were positively correlated to the grain size distribution, and that Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, and Zn were bounded to organic ligands. However, the distributions of Cd, Hg, and Mn did not have any significant correlation with the sediment grain size and organic matters. In particular, the distribution of Cd appeared to be affected by the concentration of the carbonate materials in the study area.

For designing a flywheel system using superconductor, it is necessary to understand the basic characteristics of the classical superconductor bearing. It is difficult to expect the characteristics of superconductor bearings using models that have been introduced up to now. In the "Frozen image" concept, the farce between the permanent magnet and the superconductor can be divided into two forces between permanent magnet and two imaginary magnets in the superconductor; one represents attraction farce and the other represents a repulsion force. We calculated the characteristics of two superconductor bearings, such as an axial, the radial stiffness and the levitation force. This calculation method was very helpful to expect the characteristics of the superconductor bearings. Using this model, we established the optimum condition for the superconductor bearing.r bearing.
Y211 및 BaCO$_3$ 분말로 Screen Printing 법을 이용한 Cu-sheath의 YBCO 후막 제조

We fabricated YBCO thick films by using a screen printing method with $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$(Y211) and BaCO$_3$ powders on Cu-substrate in $N_2$ atmosphere. Cu-sheathed YBCO thick film process is more simple and economic than YBCO coated conductor methods. The heat treatment is performed in the range of 860 - 875 $^{\circ}C$ for 5 min in the tube furnace of $N_2$ atmosphere. The flow rate of $N_2$ gas is fixed 60 $m\ell$/min. Microstructure and phases of thick films were investigated by optical microscope, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and SEM. At heat-treatment temperature, the thick films were partially melted by liquid reaction between CuO of oxidized copper substrate and the powders screen-printed on Cu-sheath. During the heat-treatment procedure, YBCO superconducting grains nucleate.e.

YBCO bulks with fine $Y_2BaCuO_5$(Y211) particles have been prepared by the top-seed modified powder melting process method, Solid-Liquid Melt Growth(SLMG), with $Y_2O_3$, $BaCuO_2$ and CuO mixing precursor. By using $Y_2O_3$ instead of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ as precursor, the processing became to be simpler and cheaper than the current powder melting process. The microstructures, trapped field and critical current density of the various conditioned YBCO bulks have been analyzed and the effect of Pt additive was studied. The different trapped magnetic field values of the several samples have been explained in the viewpoint of their microstructures. The fabrication of large-sized YBCO single domain has been conducted.
