우리의 주제는 아우구스티누스(Aurelius Augustinus Hipponensis)의 양심이다. 그가 양심에 관해 체계적으로 쓴 글이나 책은 없지만, 그의 여러 저서에서 양심과 관련한 중요한 개념들 이를테면 양심의 자유, 양심 고백, 도덕 양심, 그리고 양심적인 세례 등을 발견할 수 있다. 이들 여러 양심 개념들 각각을 역사적으로 연구하기 보단 잘 혼합된 양심 개념 지도를 그리는 것이 일차적인 목표다. 그 작업 결과 하나님 앞(coram Deo) 그리스도인의 양심으로 논점이 귀결된다는 사실을 발견했다. 그렇다면 그것이 어떻게 고대 양심 사상에서 기독교 통찰로 새롭게 발전하고 있는지 밝히는 것이 연구 목적이다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위한 방법론은 해석학이다. 잘 혼합된 양심 개념 지도를 그리기 위해서는 양심에 대한 바른 이해와 설명을 시도해야 하기 때문이다. 해석학은 테마에 따라 여러 분야에서 적용된다. 도덕 양심은 철학적 윤리학의 주제다. 신학적 인간학 또는 신학적 윤리학에 기초해 양심을 하나님의 소리로 그리고 내부의 법정이나 도덕 최후심급보다 더 거룩한 양심 성소가 가진 중요성을 설명할 것이다(『신국론』, 신학적 인간학과 윤리학). 양심의 본래 기능이 잘 작동되게 하기 위해서는 양심 치료가 필요한데, 그리 스도의 피를 통해서만 가능하다(『삼위일체론』, 그리스도론). 그리스도의 피가 영원한 속죄, 온전한 양심을 가져오게 된 것은 성령 때문이다(『고백록』, 성령론). 죄의 양심이 구원받은 양심이 되는 모든 관점은 구원론에 근거해 양심을 이해하고 분석했기 때문이다(『고백록』, 구원론). 양심적인 세례는 종말론적인 교회에서 기념되어야 한다(『페틸리아누스 서간 반박』, 종말론적 교회론). 연구 성과로 아우구스티누스의 양심이 오늘날 우리에게 어떻게 적용 가능한지 각 주제를 살필 때마다 다룰 것이다. 여러 양심 주제들은 오늘날에도 여전히 중요하고 그의 통찰은 현대인에게 올바른 삶을 정향해 준다는 결론으로 마무리할 것이다. Our thesis is Augustine's conscience. There are no articles or books systematically organized by him on the subject of conscience. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate through the analysis of the Christian’s conscience before God that the ancient theory of conscience reached its apex in him and at the same time that it is developing anew from ancient thought to Christian insight. I have found several important conscience-related key concepts in many of Augustine's works. I would like to introduce his theory of conscience through the concepts of confession of conscience, testimony of conscience, or freedom of conscience, such as peace of mind, conscience travel, and conscientious baptism. I will introduce several academic methodologies to address this topic. Based on theological anthropology or theological ethics rather than moral philosophical conscience, I will explain the conscience as the voice of God and the importance of the conscience as a more holy sanctuary than an inner court or moral supreme court(theological anthropology and ethics). A pure conscience is necessary for the original function of conscience to function well, and it is only possible through the blood of Christ(Christology). It is because of the Holy Spirit that the blood of Christ brought eternal redemption, a perfect conscience(Pneumatology). A redeemed conscience should commemorate conscientious baptism, especially in the eschatological church(eschatological ecclesiology). We considered his theory of conscience still important in our day and applied as a guide for the modern Christian life.
