In this study, physical properties of seven kinds of the conventional pear bag papers and two kinds of the oil coated papers were evaluated. It seemed that air and water vapour permeability of the pear bag paper was influenced by the pore structure of base paper and dried oil film property of the paper surface. It was believed that the pear bag paper sample (the water vapour mass flux: 1.5 mg/cm²/hr) took a relatively long time (225 sec) to measure the air permeability of the paper, when it compared with the pear bag paper sample with 4 mg/cm²/hr. Two kinds of blended vegetable oil were used for oil coating of the base paper (Oil-A: 75 wt% safflower and 25 wt% tung oil; Oil-B: 25 wt% safflower and 75 wt% tung oil). It was found out that because dried oil film property of vegetable oil such as strength, continuous film forming ability was largely influenced by the iodine value of the vegetable oil, two kinds of the oil coated paper with Oil-A and Oil-B showed different results of the air permeability, tensile strength, and burst strength although the same weight of the vegetable oil was applied on the surface of the pear bag paper.

Basic studies were conducted to understand the rheological properties of the coating colors and effectively utilize the information obtained from the rheometric test. For this purpose, the understanding and interpreting method for the interaction mechanism between the coating components were examined using the analyzing method of the viscosity and viscoelastic property of the coating colors. The coating solution exhibited shear thinning behavior as shear rate increased. The slope of the elastic curve (viscoelastic characteristic) of the coating color in the low frequency region (10-1-100(rad/s)) was considered to be correlated with the strength of the interaction of the coating components. Although it was believed that the rheological properties of coating color independently influenced by the individual factors such as the binder type and the pigment packing structure (pigment mixture composition), the interaction of two or more factors may also have a complicated effect on the rheology of the coating color.

In this study, physical properties of ten kinds of the conventional pear bag papers were evaluated. The paper samples showed tensile strength ranged with 1.58-4.03 kN/m (machine direction, MD) and 0.35-1.25 kN/m (cross direction, CD). Burst strength of the samples were in the range with 56.3-124.1 kPa (MD) and 79.1-156.4 kPa (CD). Air resistance (permeability) of the outside paper were divided into two groups (group A: 10-30 sec/100 mL, group B: 40-55 sec/100 mL). Air permeability of the inner side paper were also divided into two groups (group C: 10-20 sec/100 mL, group D: 30-45 sec/100 mL), exclusive of sample E (75 sec/100 mL). Meanwhile, the two samples (D, J) showed similar results of total air permeability (the outside paper + the inner side paper) with 27.2 and 26.9 sec/100 mL, respectively. However, unlike the air permeability, water vapor permeability (the outside paper + the inner side paper) of the two samples (D, J) showed different results with 2.6 and 1.4 mg/cm2/hr. From these results, It was considered that water vapor permeability characteristics of the papers were closely related to the air permeability as well as water resistance(water drop contact angle).

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the fusing mechanism of the micro-encapsulated model toner. In this study, we conducted rheological test to understand the fusing mechanism of the model toner on the low temperature condition of the electrophotographic system. We made four kinds of model toner having a different capsule wall thickness. Differential scanning calorimetry test of the toner was carried out to confirm whether they had a difference of the melting point or not. Flow and dynamic measurement of each encapsulated model toner was conducted to clarify the difference of their fusing mechanism. Especially, difference of the elastic properties of the toner due to the dissimilarity of the capsule-wall thickness were examined in the temperature range of 40°C and 100°C. In the result, It was found out that for the measurement of 80°C, the encapsulated model toner showed different tendency of their proportion between elastic and loss modulus (tan δ) on the side of low frequency region between 10<SUP>-1</SUP> and 100, since fused resin of the encapsulated toner had a disparity of their transude characteristic due to the dissimilarity of the capsule-wall thickness.
