Conventional organic matrixes such as phenolformaldehyde, pitch for the carboncarbon composite have several problems, which include repeated carbonization for the composite fabrication and shrinkage during pyrolysis. In this study, we have proposedpolyarylacetylene(PAA), as a new developing organic matrix, which can solve the problems and improve the properties of composite. PAA resin was prepared by the cyclotrimerization of diethynylbenzene using nickel catalyst. PAA resin was a slightly crosslinked aromatic polymer with some acetylene group that contains only carbon and hydrogen. Its advantage is high char yield( >85%)after cabonization and low curing temperature(onset curing at 130∼140℃). It was expected that PAA resin improved abradability of the carboncarbon composite, decreased the densification cycle and reduced manufacture expenditure by the one step processing

Functionalization reaction of poly(butadienyl)lithium with 4,4'-bis(dimethylamino)-benzophenone, 4,4'-bis(diethylamino)benzophenone, 1,1'-bis[(4-dimethylamino)phenyl]ethylene, and 1,1'-bis[(4-diethylamino)phenyl]ethylene in n-heptane provide the corresponding ω-amine chain-end funstionalized polymers in 90∼95% yields. α-Functionalized polybutadienes were prepared by the polymerization using amine functional initiator, which was obtained by the stoichiometric reaction of sec-butyllithium and 1,1'-bis[(4-dimethylamino)phenyl]ethylene, or 1,1'-bis[(4-diethylamino)phenyl]ethylene. Utilizing these two reaction technologies, well-known α,ω-difunctionalized polybutadienes could be synthesized by the polymerization using amine functional initiator followed by chain-end functionalization.
