We prepared lead ion-selective PVC membranes that were based on N,N'-bis-thiophene-2-ylmethylene-ethane-1,2-diamine as a membrane carrier. The membrane electrode has a linear dynamic range between 1.0 × 105 and 1.0 × 101 M with a Nernstian slope of 29.79 mV per decade, and its detection limit was 2.04 × 106 M at room temperature. The potentiometric response is independent of the pH of the solution in the pH range of 5-7. The proposed electrode revealed good selectivity and response for Pb2+ over a wide variety of other metal ions in pH 5.0 buffer solutions, and there was good reproducibility of the base line on the subsequent measurements. The membrane electrode has a relatively fast response time, satisfactory reproducibility and a relatively long life time.

The risks of debris flows caused by climate change have increased significantly around the world. Recently, landslide disaster prevention technology is more focused on the failure and post-failure dynamics to mitigate the hazards in flow-prone area. In particular, we should define the soil strength and flow characteristics to estimate the debris flow mobility in the mountainous regions in Korea. To do so, we selected known ancient landslides area: Inje Pohang and Sangju debris flows. Firstly we measured physical and mechanical properties: liquidity index and undrained shear strength by fall cone penetrometer. From the test results, we found that there is a possible relationship between liquidity index and undrained shear strength, C<sub>ur</sub>=( 1.2/I<sub>L</sub>)<sup>3.3</sup>, in the selected areas, even though they were different in geological compositions. Assuming that the yield stress is equal to the undrained shear strength at the initiation of sliding, we examined the flow characteristics of weathered soils in Korea. When liquidity index is given as 1, 1.5 and 3.0, the debris flow motion of weathered soils is compared with that of mud-rich sediments, which are known as low-activity clays. At I<sub>L</sub> = 1, it seems that debris flow could reach approximately 250m after 5 minutes. As liquidity index increased from 1 to 3, the debris flow propagation of weathered soils is twice than that of low-activity clays. It may be due to the fact that soil masses mixed with the ambient water and then highly fragmented during flow, thereby leading to the high mobility. The results may help to predict the debris flow propagation and to develop disaster prevention technology at similar geological settings, especially for the weathered soils, in Korea.

Nanowires of polytetrakis(o-aminophenyl)porphyrin (PTAPPNW) were fabricated by electrochemical polymerization with the cyclic voltammetric method in anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes. The glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified by PTAPPNW, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) and Nafion as a binder was investigated with voltammetric methods in a phosphate buffer saline (PBS) solution at pH 7.4. The PTAPPNW + SWNT + Nafion/GCE exhibited strongly enhanced voltammetric and amperometric sensitivity towards hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which shortened the response time and enhanced the sensitivity for H2O2 determination at an applied potential of 0.0 V by amperometric method. The PTAPPNW + SWNT + Nafion/GCE can be used to monitor H2O2 at very low concentrations in biological pH as an efficient electrochemical H2O2 sensor.

인터넷을 이용한 설문조사는 기존의 설문조사에 비해 저렴한 비용으로 빠른 시간 내에 결과를 분석할 수 있다는 장점으로 인해 점점 이용이 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 인터넷 상에서 온라인으로 설문문서의 작성에서부터 설문조사, 결과 분석, 처리 및 가시화에 이르는 전 과정을 자동화한 새로운 설문조사 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 설문문서 자동생성기를 통하여 설문조사 웹 페이지를 누구나 쉽게 만들 수 있고, CGI를 이용하여 인터넷과 데이터베이스를 자동으로 연동하였으며 자바 애플릿을 사용하여 설문결과를 그래프로 가시화하였다. 또한 음성이나 동영상 등의 멀티미디어 파일을 첨부함으로써 설문대상자들의 관심과 흥미를 유도하여 설문결과의 신뢰도를 높였다. 그리고 제안하는 시스템을 이용하여 인터넷 상에서 실제 설문조사를 실시하여 시스템의 활용 가능성을 확인하였다.

A potentiometric sensor based on the Schiff base (N^2E,N^(2')E)-N^2,N^(2')-bis(thiophen-2-ylmethylene)-1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diamine has been synthesized and explored as an ionophore PVC-based membrane sensor selective for the silver (Ag^+) ion. Potentiometric investigations indicate a high affinity of this receptor for the silver ion. Seven membranes have been fabricated with different compositions, with the best performance shown by the membrane with an ionophore composition (w/w) of: 1.0 mg, PVC: 33.0 mg, DOA: 66.0 mg in 1.0 mL THF. The sensor worked well within a wide concentration range of 1.0 × 10^(−2) to 1.0 × 10^(−7) M, at pH 5,at room temperature (slope 57.4 mV/dec.), and with a rapid response time of 9 s; the sensor also showed good selectivity towards the silver ion over a huge number of interfering cations, with the highest selectivity coefficient for Hg^(2+) at −3.7. Thus far, the best lower detection limit was 4.0× 10^(−8) M.
Pilymeric Membrane Sodium Ion-Selective Electrodes Based on Calix[4}arene Triesters

New lipophilic triesters of calix[4]arene and calix[4]quinone are investigated as sodium ion-selective ionophores in poly(vinyl chloride) membrane electrodes. For an ion selective electrode based on calix[4]arene triester I, the linear response is 1 ${\times}$10-3.5 to 1 ${\times}$ 10-1 M of Na+ concentrations. The selectivity coefficients for sodium ion over alkali metal and ammonium ions are determined. The detection limit (logaNa+ = -4.50) and the selectivity coefficient (logKNa+,K+pot = -1.86) are obtained for polymeric membrane electrode containing calix[4]arene triester I.
The Novel SCN− Ion-selective Electrode Based on the 1-Benzyl-3-(4-nitrophenyl) thio-urea Ionophore

A potentiometric sensor based on the 1-benzyl-3-(4-nitrophenyl) thio-urea was synthesized and tested as an ionophore in PVC based membrane sensor towards SCN− ions. This membrane exhibits a linear stable response over a wide concentration range (1.0 × 10−5 to 1.0 × 10−2 M) with a slope of −59.2 mV/dec., a detection limit of log[SCN−] = −5.05, and a selectivity coefficient for thiocyanate against perchlorate anion of = −0.133. The selectivity series of the membrane is as follows: SCN− > ClO4 − > I− > NO3 − > HSO3 − > Cl− > HSO4 − > F− > CH3COO− > HCO3 − > Br− > H2PO4 − > SO3 2− > SO4 2− > CO3 2−. The proposed electrode showed good selectivity and a good response for the SCN− ion over a wide variety of other anions in pH 6.0 buffer solutions and has a fast response time of about < 5s. The influences of the membrane by pH, ionophore, and plasticizer were studied.
