Self-Piercing Rivet을 이용한 CFRP/Steel/Aluminum 3매 겹침 접합평가

Multi-material integration between lightweight materials such as aluminum alloy, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), ultra-high-strength steel (UHSS), etc. is one of the key techniques for achieving weight reduction. For its wide use, productive and reliable technologies for the dissimilar joining of the lightweight materials is required. In this study, three-layer dissimilar joining of CFRP, GA-590DP, and Al5052-H32 was investigated using self-piercing rivet (SPR). The tensile shear load and the failure modes were evaluated for four different layering sequences. It was identified that the failure originates from the CFRP which rips out the rivet as it tears off from the joint. Therefore, the joining strength was stronger when the CFRP was sandwiched between the metals preventing the fractured CFRP from prematurely ripping out the rivets. Also, it was found that using Al5052-H32 as the lower sheet exhibited similar joining strength compared to that of using GA-590DP as the lower sheet. Finally, the tensile shear load increased as the CFRP thickness is increased in all the layering sequences.

High temperature co-electrolysis of H₂O-CO₂ mixtures using solid oxide cells has attracted attention as promising CO₂ utilization technology for production of syngas (H₂/CO), feedstock for E-fuel synthesis. For direct supply to E-fuel production such as hydrocarbon and methanol, the outlet gas ratio (H₂/CO/CO₂) of co-electrolysis should be controlled. In this work, current voltage characteristic test and product gas analysis were carried out under various reaction conditions which could attain proper syngas ratio.

In response to the environmental regulations and market forces for fuel economy, automotive industry has continued trying to apply lightweight multi-materials for weight reduction. Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) is one of the most attractive structural materials because of its high strength to weight ratio. CFRP-metal dissimilar joints are inevitable to realize a variety of CFRP-metal hybrid designs. However, conventional fusion joining methods for metals are not applicable to CFRP-metal dissimilar joints. In this study, considering the process productivity and the joint reliability, self-piercing rivet (SPR) is investigated to join CFRP and aluminum panels. The SPR joint quality such as head height, interlock, bottom thickness is considered to find an optimal combination of the processing parameters, which include rivet, die, and punch force. In the tensile lap shear test of CFRP-aluminum SPR joints, the first fracture load is found to be a better parameter for representing the joint quality over the max fracture load because of the discontinuous property of CFRP panel. The first fracture load achieved in this study is up to 4.4 kN for SPR lap joint with 1.8 mm thickness CFRP upper and 2.0 mm Al5083-O lower.
