The child seat sensing unit, called ALR Switch, detects the activation of theAutomatic Locking Retractor (ALR) that allows the child seat to be secured in the car. It also sends a signal to the car, allowing the car to determine whether the child seat is installed. Applying an ALR switch to a seatbelt retractor only allows limited space and requires many design factors. In this study, an optimization design of the ALR Switch based on the Taguchi method was performed so that the ALR Switch can accurately and reliably detect the ALR operation status.
