Composite pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma of the adrenal gland is a well-recognized, yet extremely rare tumor with only one case reported in Korea. We report a case of incidentally found composite pheochromocytoma and ganglioneuroma of the adrenal gland in a 44-year-old female composed of intermingled components of pheochromocytom, ganglioneuroma, and cells with intermediate features. On immunohistochemical staining, the pheochromocytoma component was positive for synaptophysin and chromogranin, but negative for S-100 protein. Staining for the S-100 protein revealed sustentacular cells which formed a peripheral coat around the “Zellballen” and Schwann cells. The Fontana-Masson stain defined neuromelanin granules of ganglion cells and the ganglion cells expressed neural markers such as neurofilament proteins. Ultrastructural findings revealed pheochromocytes with a round or ovoid nucleus and occasionally prominent nucleolus containing numerous adrenaline and noradrenaline granules.
문화예술교육 분야별 특성과 분류체계에 대한 탐색적 분석

「문화예술교육지원법」의 제정 이래 우리나라 문화예술교육정책은 급격하게 확산되었다. 그러나 문화예술교육의 개념에 대한 법적 정의와 실제 실천영역에서의 간극에 의해 문화예술교육이 내포해야할 범위에 대한 논란이 있었다. 이로 인해 문화예술교육의 분류체계가 정립될 필요성이 제기되어 왔다. 이에 본 연구는 「문화예술교육지원법」에서 제정한 10개 분야별 특성을 바탕으로 향후 발생할 다양한 환경 및 수요변화를 고려하여 분류체계에 대한 개선방향의 모색하는데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 문화예술 10개 분야의 특성을 내용 및 방법, 인프라·기자재·재료, 교육·강사수급, 기타 등의 측면을 중심으로 분석하며, 향후 분류체계의 개선방향에 대한 구체적인 제언을 제시한다.
정책특성이 성과주의 예산제도에 미치는 영향: 문화예술정책을 중심으로

The performance-based budget system has a purpose to increase the rationality of budget decision by linking budget and performance. In Korea, performance-based budget system is introduced and operated for this purpose. Many studies analyzing the link between performance evaluation and budget have shown different results according to the scope of analysis. This means that it is necessary to consider various factors affecting the performance-based budget system. In particular, it is necessary to consider the fact that conformity with performance management systems differs for each policy area. Thus, this study analyzed the connection between evaluation result and budget, focusing on culture and arts policy because culture and arts policies are poorly compatible with performance management systems. To do this, culture and art policy are divided into three types according to the validity of public expenditure. Results showed that evaluation results are not utilized in budget decisions of the government or the National Assembly. The budget is decreased as public expenditure is less feasible. 성과와 예산을 연계하여 예산결정의 합리성을 제고하고자 하는 성과주의예산제도가 세계적으로 확산됨에 따라 우리나라에서도 재정성과관리제도를 도입하여 운영하고 있다. 이후 평가결과의 활용과 관련된 연구들이 등장하였으며 분석범위에 따라 평가결과와 예산 간 연계성에 대한 상이한 분석결과를 제시하고 있다. 이는 곧 성과주의 예산제도에 미치는 다양한 요인을 보다 고려할 필요가 있다는 점을 의미한다. 특히, 정책 분야별로 성과관리제도와의 적합성이 상이하게 나타나는데, 문화예술정책은 성과관리제도와의 낮은 적합성으로 평가결과가 예산결정과정에서 활용되기 어려운 측면이 존재한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 문화예술정책을 중심으로 평가결과와 예산 간 연계성을 분석하며, 문화예술정책의 세부 정책분야별 상이한 공공지출의 타당성을 중심으로 정책특성과 예산 간 인과관계를 검증한다. 분석 결과 정부와 국회의 예산결정에 평가결과가 활용되지 않는 것으로 나타난 반면, 공공지출의 타당성이 낮은 정책일수록 예산이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

During or after acupuncture treatment, sudden or unexpected death can happen. And appropriate postmortem examination with legal autopsy is very important and critical to determine whether or not the death is caused by acupuncture treatment itself. Many complications and injuries related with acupuncture have been known, but there may be no complications and no diseases to explain sudden death like our case. Therefore through our presenting case we intend to suggest a few points at postmortem examination in acupuncture related death cases and propose to consider the possibility of acupuncture shock in the cases similar to ours.
Artificial Intelligence in Pathology

As in other domains, artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important in medicine. In particular, deep learning-based pattern recognition methods can advance the field of pathology by incorporating clinical, radiologic, and genomic data to accurately diagnose diseases and predict patient prognoses. In this review, we present an overview of artificial intelligence, the brief history of artificial intelligence in the medical domain, recent advances in artificial intelligence applied to pathology, and future prospects of pathology driven by artificial intelligence.

Intussusception is a rare disease in adults. A demonstrable etiology is found in approximately 85% of all cases, and approximately 40% of them are caused by malignant tumors. A 65-year-old patient visited the outpatient department with mild abdominal pain without other symptoms. The initial laboratory test and simple X-ray showed normal findings. CT revealed intussusception in the ileocecal area. The initial colonoscopic biopsy revealed atypical cells. Follow up colonoscopy showed spontaneous reduction of the intussusception. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was suspected in the second colonoscopic biopsy. An elective operation was performed. This case reports a case of a spontaneous reduction of adult intussusception with a brief review of literature.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to characterize the healing in the grafted calvarial defects of rats after adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Methods: Twenty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats (body weight, 250–300 g) were randomly divided into two treatment groups: with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO; n=14) and without HBO (NHBO; n=14). Each group was further subdivided according to the bone substitute applied: biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP; n=7) and surface-modified BCP (mBCP; n=7). The mBCP comprised BCP coated with Escherichia-coli-derived recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (ErhBMP-2) and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Two symmetrical circular defects (6-mm diameter) were created in the right and left parietal bones of each animal. One defect was assigned as a control defect and received no bone substitute, while the other defect was filled with either BCP or mBCP. The animals were allowed to heal for 4 weeks, during which those in the HBO group underwent 5 sessions of HBO. At 4 weeks, the animals were sacrificed, and the defects were harvested for histologic and histomorphometric analysis. Results: Well-maintained space was found in the grafted groups. Woven bone connected to and away from the defect margin was formed. More angiogenesis was found with HBO and EGCG/BMP-2 (P<0.05). None of the defects achieved complete defect closure. Increased new bone formation with HBO or EGCG/BMP-2 was evident in histologic evaluation, but it did not reach statistical significance in histometric analysis. A synergic effect between HBO and EGCG/BMP-2 was not found. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, the present findings indicate that adjunctive HBO and EGCG/BMP-2 could be beneficial for new bone formation in rat calvarial defects.
