Using the numerical code for the interior ballistics, the performance of the interior ballistics with the characteristics according to the position of the solid propellant in chamber has been investigated. In existing research, propellants have been evenly distributed in the chamber. In this study, however, several cases of the existence of empty space in the chamber at which the propellants are not evenly distributed are considered. The 7-perforated propellant configuration has been used in this research. The results have shown the change of performance of the interior ballistics according to solid propellant positions in the chamber.

Pressure drops of two-phase flow in a pipe according to particle shapes have been calculated and analyzed. The numerical analysis for 3 cases of Reynolds number has been conducted for each particle shape. In case of the cylinder shape, the particles had been assumed to be randomly distributed for each Reynolds number. The results haw been averaged and compared to those of the case of the ball shape. Additionally, pressure drops of ball and cylinder shapes has been compared to the result of Ergun’s equation.

A numerical code for the interior ballistics has been investigated. The method of the ghost cell extrapolation has been used for the moving boundary with the projectile movement. The porosity effect and the Ergun's Equation have been used in the numerical calculation for the grain combustion. The calculation results of the numerical code have been compared and verified through those of the lumped parameter mel hod. Computerization techniques of the numerical analysis for the interior ballistics have been developed.

The appearance of the negative differential pressure(NDP) between the breech pressure and the shot base pressure in the interior ballistics indicates that a risk of the serious damage on the barrel or the ammunition has increased. From this reason, the gun system must be designed to reduce the NDP during the ignition stage. So, the effect of the propellant configuration has been investigated on the NDP of the interior ballistics. In order to simulate the interior ballistics with, the gas-solid flow, the developed two-dimensional axi-symmetric code has been used with, the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach and the LSHUS method. The propellant geometry with, the progressive surface area has increased the NDP.
