Nail psoriasis is a common finding in psoriatic patients and is associated with substantial adverse effects on the patient`s quality of life. Although several treatment options are available, nail psoriasis tends to be persistent and refractory to therapy. Pulse dye laser (PDL) has been demonstrated to be effective for plaque-type psoriasis, but there are no reports on nail psoriasis being successfully treated with PDL in the Korean literature. We here report on a 46-year-old woman presenting with nail psoriasis recalcitrant to conventional treatment modalities, showing pitting, nail bed discoloration, and crumbling. We successfully treated the symptoms with 595 nm PDL, supporting the hypothesis that PDL may be a safe and effective therapeutic option in patients with recalcitrant nail psoriasis. 육군자탕이 위액분비 및 적출 위 운동에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

The extracts of Yukgunja-tang which has been used in some of gastroin testinal disorders were examined for secretion of gastric juice and movement of isolated stomach of rabbit. Experiments were performed with the dried extract of Yukgunja-tang (sample I) and the dried extract compound made of each drug of Yukgunja-tang (sample II). The secretion of gastric juice at the doses of 25.0 and 50.0 ㎎/㎏ p.o. of sample I showed the decreases of 34.3 and 43.3%, respectively, as compared with control group, whereas the secretion at a dose of 76.8g/㎏ of sample II showed 43.1%. In gastric acid secretion, sample I showed 50.0% decrease at a dose of 50.0㎎/㎏ and sample II showed 46.2% decrease at a dose of 76.8㎎/㎏. In pepsin output sample I showed 17.8 and 23.4% decreases at a dose of 25.0 and 50.0㎎/㎏, respectively, whereas sample II showed 22.5% decrease at a dose of 76.8㎎/㎏. The isolated stomach of rabbit showed dose-responsive contraction by addition of sample I, however the contraction was not observed by sample II.

Hyangsayangwee-Tang, a combined preparation of crude drugs, which has been used for stomach and intestinal disorder, was examined for anti-spasmodic, anti-ulcerative and anti-emetive effects. Spontaneous motility of isolated ileum was strongly suppressed and inhibitory effects against contraction of isolated ileum induced by acetylcholine and barium chloride were shown in mice. And, contraction of isolated guinea-pig ileum by histamine was inhibited. In rats fundus preparations, Hyangs ayangwee-Tang elicited strong relaxation and had antagonist effects against the spasm induced by acetylcholine and barium chloride. A significant inhibitory effect on the intestinal propulsion of barium sulfate in mice was shown. In pylorus-ligated rats, Hyangsangwee-Tang inhibited gastric secretion and showed a strong anti-peptic activity. Protective effects against gastric ulceration induced by pyloric ligation, waterimmersion stress, histamine and aspirin were significantly recognized in mice and rats. Hyangsayangwee-Tang decreased cupric sulfate-induced vomitting in frogs.

Attempts were to investigate the effects of Bojungikgi-tang on the digestive system, blood pressure and diuresis. The results showed that relaxing action was shown on the isolated ileum in mice and that strong antagonistic actions were seen on BaCl₂, acetylcholine and histamine-induced contraction of the ileum in mice and guinea-pigs that the relaxing effect of the intestinal smooth muscle was recognized. Inhibitory effects on transport rate in the small intestine of mice and castor oil-induced catharsis in mice were noted. Inhibitory action on the secretion of gastric juice, pH ascending effect and decreasing effect of the free acidity and total acidity were recognized. Continuous hypotensive action was seen, but when the vagus nerve was cut, hypotensive action was remarkably decreased. The diuretic effect was also recognized.

These studies were conducted to investigate the effect of Yijin-tang on the anticonvulsion, analgesic, sedative actions, effect on blood vessels and blood pressure. The result of these studies was summarized as follows; Suppressive action was shown on convulsion due to cerebrocortical causes, but no such actions were noted either myelic or diencephaltic causes in mice. Analgesic and sedative actions were significantly recognized in mice. Increasing of blood pressure and vasocontractive actions were noted.
