        OMA의 보이드 개념의 특성에 대한 연구

        This study focuses on the analysis of “the strategy of void” and the carecteristic of the void in the projets of OMA-Rem Koolhaas. Denying the fantasy of omnipotence of architecture, the void of OMA means not only the emptiness but also the instability, indeterminacy of program. The Melun-Senart projet(1987) called the strategy of void Ⅰ, and the french national library project(1989) called the strategy of void Ⅱ are the examples in the contrast of void and solid. From 1996, OMA-Koolhaas do experiments on the strategy of void actively with the others concepts of OMA such as architectural promenade, inclined plate, etc. In order to investigate the concept of void, this study will investigate the architectural genealogy and developpement of this concept in the projects of Koolhaas from 1975 to 2006, and compare the variation of the concept of ‘poche’ of Beaux-art and the concept of servant space/served space of Louis Kahn, etc. This study intends to precise the meaning of void in the projects of Rem Koolhaas.

        소우 후지모토 건축의 프랙탈적 특성에 대한 연구

        Sou Fujimoto, one of the young architects leading the architectural discourse in Japan, defines his architecture as "architecture of in-between" and "weak architecture". As motifs of architecture, he takes natural objects such as forest, cloud, mountain, which could be represented by the fractal geometry. In his projects, he intends to make the incomplete whole from the relationship of the parts, and pursues the ambiguousness and continuity of interior/exterior, transparency/opacity, floors, functions etc. As he mentioned, his projects are the attempts for overcoming the modern architecture as Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier. "The cosmos from the chaos" of Prigogine and Stengers influenced to young Fujimoto"s architectural thought. The fractal geometry and the complexity theory play important role in his projects and his thought as alternative of modern architecture. The fractal geometry explain the logic of the nature which the euclidean geometry could not explain. The purpose of this these is to investigate the characteristics of the fractal geometry in Fujimoto"s projects.

        현대 건축에 나타난 생기론적 특성에 대한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to examine the vitalistic characteristics in the contemporary architecture and urbanism. The mechanistic paradigm dominating the modern thinking after Descartes is the element-reductive thinking which analyse and reduce the whole into the elements. The mechanism emphasize the result and the substance rather than the process and the becoming. In opposition to the mechanism, the vitalism considers the life and the matter as continuous things, set a high value on becoming, evolution, process, metamorphosis, virtuality, event, time, etc. This thinking is developed by the philosophes such as Leibniz, Bergson, and Deleuze and the contemporary science such as cybernetics, the network theory and the complexity. This study intends to examine the vitalistic paradigm in the contemporary architecture and urbanism in opposition to the mechanic paradigm.

        OMA, MVRDV, SANAA에 나타난 매트-빌딩의 영향에 대한 연구

        The mat-building is one of the urban architectural alternatives appearing in the 1960s in the urban growth and increase of population. The architects of Team10, Smithson, Candilis, Josic, Woods, etc developed this prototype, and another groups such as metabolism, archigram, GEAM share the idea of mat-building. The characteristics of mat-bulding are agglomeration, changeability, transformability, network, transporting infrastructure, circulation, mobility, repetition of module, artificial decks, superposition of decks, etc. In the 1990s, the mat-building reappears in the architectural topos, but in different forms. This study intends to analyse the characteristics of mat-building of the '60s and that of the '90s, and to compare them. The projects of OMA, MVRDV, SANAA show the characteristics of '90s mat-building such as inclined plate, rhizome, field, landscape. The concept of mat-building makes think together architecture, city, landscape and environment. This study will show the evolution of mat-building and its meaning.

        SANAA 주거 건축에 나타난 공간 관계의 재구성에 대한 연구

        The extreme experiments in the houses and the housing of SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima and Ryu Nishizawa) is relatively unknown compared with their public buildings. This study intends to analyse the decomposition and recomposition of domestic spaces in the projects of SANAA. Their reconsideration of basic domestic unit such as corridor, room, terrace, garden, etc is related to how to redefine and the contemporary life how to reorganize the relation of room/corridor, room/room, interior/exterior, house/city, house/garden, etc. Though their experiements look totally new, the analysis reveals that they can trace back to the japanese traditional domestic space and even to "Raumplan" of Adolf Loos. This study aims to analyse the experiments of SANAA in domestic space, to trace the genealogy and to find the meaning in the contemporary life and society.

        츄미, 콜하스, MVRDV에 나타난 프로그램적 이질성과 이접에 대한 연구

        The heterogeneity and the disjuction are inevitables caracteristics of contemporary city and society. Therefore, differently to the modern architecture and urbanism, the contemporary architecture and urbanism are interested in how deal with the diversity, discontinuity, disjuction, heterogeneity, instead of continuity, conjuction, homogeneity. These notions are applicated from architectural scale(housing, commercial building, etc) to urban scale. The purpose of this study is to analysis the concept of disjuction and heterogeneity in the projects of Bernard Tschumi, Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV. The heterogeneity which the study investigate is not formal but programmatic. Through the comparison of their methods, this study attribute to clarify the statu of the heterogeneity of architecture contemporaty.

        ‘도시 안의 도시(city in the city)’에 나타난 콜하스의 건축과 도시론의 성격에 대한 연구

        Koolhaas’ perspective on urbanism differs from the modern urbanism and typological urbanism. The Melun-Senart masterplan, La Défense masterplan shows unique characteristic different from that of conventional urbanism. The roots of this creative approach can be found in the traits of his research with O.M. Ungers back in the 1970s. Koolhaas and Ungers have collaborated intimately from 1972 to 1977 to work on urban projects. This collaboration reaches its cilmax in their project City in the City, where many of Koolhaas’ core concepts such as archipelago, void/solid, plurality, infrastructure, congestion, and social condenser are introduced. This thesis will explore the development of these concepts in their collaboration and shed new light on how this period has made a transition into Koolhaas’ perspective on urbanism and architecture as well as his works. The purpose of this study is to investigate these core concepts of Koolhaas in City in the City, and to find the development and the meaning of these concepts in his projects.

        쿠마 켄고와 소우 후지모토의 ‘약한 건축’에 대한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to analyse "weak architecture" proposed by Kuma Kengo and Sou Fujimoto against the "strongness" of modern architecture focusing the contrast of the artificial and the natural. According to Kengo, the omnipresence of concrete, steel and glass expelled use of natural materials such as stone, wood, soil, and made them material of decoration. Fujimoto criticize that modern architecture has the spirit of division and separation and that modern functionalism separated the human activities. As alternative, Kengo proposes surface composed of superposition of natural materials and Fujimoto makes the incomplete whole based on the relations of the parts. Their tentatives cause the question about the lost relation between artificial/natural, part/whole, transparence/opacity, interior/exterior, contrast/gradation. This study aims to analyse and compare the works and thought of two architects.

        렘 콜하스와 60, 70년대 아방가르드와의 연관성에 대한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between the projects of Rem Koolhaas and the architecural avant-gardes of 60’s. 1960’s and early ’70 is the period plenty of new urban ideas and the radical architectural experiments. This period saw the emergence of avant-gardes more than any periods in 20th century. Koolhaas was influenced not only by the modern architects such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Russian avant-garde which is mentioned in the text of Koolhaas, but also by the avant-gardes of 60’s such as Team 10, megastructure, Archigram, Archizoom, Superstudio, Situationist international, Claude Parent, O.M.Ungers and Venturi. This relationship is relatively less studied. Therefore, this study intends to examine their influence in the thinking and projects of Koolhaas.
