Stomach cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm in Korea, and the 5-year survival rate of early cancer is excellent in comparison with advanced cancer. Therefore, tremedous efforts would be made for the early detection of gastric cancer. We clinically reviewed our cases and the literatures of early gastric cancer (EGC). During the recent 7 years from Jan. 1981 to Aug. 1987, 82 cases of EGC were collected from Chungnam National University Hosptial, Daejeon St. Marie Hospital and Daejeon Eulji Hospital. The resuls were summerized as follows, 1) The incidence of EGC among gastric resection due to gastric cancer was 14.2% (51 cases among the 358 cases). 2) The overall male to female sex ratio was 1.6: 1, and the peak age incidence was 6th decade. 3) Symptoms and signs, in order of frquency, were as follows; epigastric pain (58.5%), epigastric discomfort (26.8%), indigestion (25.6%). 4) The most frequent macrotype of EGC was IIc (28%), and its combined type (46.3%). 5) The major locations of EGC were pylorus & antrum (52.4%) and angle (30.5%). 6) 28 cases among 82 EGC were confined to mucosa (34.1%), and metastasis to regional lymph node was found in 5 cases (6.1%). 7) The size of EGC was variable, but average 2.0 cm in diameter. 8) The most common microscopic tissue type of EGC was adenocarcinoma, poorly differentiated (63.4%). 9) Preoperative endoscopic gross finding was as follows; advanced cancer (48.6%), EGC (32.9%), benign lesion (18.6%). 10) 29 cases among 30 cases of follw-up were lived recently.

The authors performed long colonofiberoscopy and sigmoidoscopy on 423 cases of colon diseases, who have visited to the department of Internal Medicine from July, 1980 to October, 1986. The results were followings; 1. In age distribution of 423 cases, 5th decade was most common(108 cases; 25.5%), and the next was 4th decade(87 cases; 20.6%), 6th decade(80 cases; 18.9%). 2. In clinical symptom and signs, abdominal pain or discomfort was most common(182 cases; 35.2%), and the next was diarrhea(102 cases; 19.7%), hematochezia(71 cases; 13.7%). 3. In endoscopic diagnosis, the inflammatory bowel diseases were most common(80 cases; 18.9%), and the malignancy and the polyp were equal rate(36 cases; 8.5%). 과민성 대장 증후군에서의 Pinaverium bromide의 임상효과에 대한 관찰

An open clinical therapeutic trial was used to study the therapeutic effect and untoward side effect of pinaverium bromide (Dicetelc^ⓡ) in patients with the irritable bowel syndrome. The drug was given orally 50mg three times a day for two to four weeks to 37 out-patients at Chungnam National University Hospital. The results observed were as followings. 1. Out of the 28 cases with abdominal pain, 22 cases (86%) were markedly improved. And out of 28 cases with abdominal fullness, 20 cases (71%), and out of the 35 cases with changes in bowel habit, 31 cases (89%) were markedly improved. 2. The effect of this drug was as excellent in 18 patients (48.6%) as they were completely relieved from all symptoms. And the effect was as good in 17 patients (45.9%) as patially relieved. So the overall effectiveness was 94.6%'. Only in 2 patients (5.4%), the drug was of no effect. 3. There were no untoward side effects observed. In conclusion, Pinaverium bromide appears to be effective and safe for the treatment of patients with irritable bowel syndrome.
