Total three hundred and fourteen dairy cows were used in this study to analysis of correlation between milking levels and automatic milking system (AMS). Cows were divided into five groups according to their milking levels (over 50 kg/day, 49~40 kg/day, 39~30 kg/day, 29~20 kg/day, 19~10 kg/day). All groups were compared with daily milking number, rejected number by AMS, residence time at AMS, milking time, flow rate of milk. Daily milking number and milking time were higher in the group of over 50 kg and 49~40 kg than that of other groups (p<0.05). There are no correlation on rejected number by AMS, residence time at AMS and flow rate of milk between milking levels and AMS. In addition, we found that the milk yield affected to feed intake and rumination of dairy cows. In conclusion, present results indicated that installation of AMS on dairy farms with high milk producing cows might be affected positively.

A study uses ultrasound technology to advance the management of cattle farming by improving the quality of cows. Most domestic and foreign ultrasound research on cows consists of fragmented studies because of the difficulty in establishing standards for selecting quality cows using gathered information and genetic ability, and because it takes a long time to get results on genetic quality from future generations. Therefore, breeding farms in HongCheon, 434 houses and 6,543 heads of cattle, are given suggested selection and slaughter standards for their individual management. Using the results from estimating the genetic ability with ultrasound technology based on rearing capacity, the highest ranked 20% of the cows get continuous care and the lowest ranked 20% get rejected and shipped after fatting up. Based on these research results, the introduction of ultrasound technology is suggested as the way to apply a four-step classification for establishing a foundation for breeding cows. By suggesting a step by step detailed application method for producing and breeding the best cows, the goal is for the scientific society to present a method to secure income through continuous and stable breeding management.

Automatic milking systems (AMS) have been increasingly introduced to Korean dairy farms. However, in comparison with conventional milking systems (CMS), some negative changes in milk quality are being observed. The use of AMS leads to an increase in milking frequency, which in turn might result in higher physical stress on the milk, possibly causing changes in the milk fat globule (MFG) membrane. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the different milking systems on the milk quality, with a focus on milk fat properties. At the same time, we studied the effect of feeding the dairy cows with protected fat. Raw milk samples were taken monthly from individual cows as well as from bulk tanks at four AMS and four CMS dairy farms. We measured quality-related parameters such as MFG size distribution, free fatty acid content and composition, and acid values. Although most results showed no significant differences with regard to the milking system, we found a relatively high positive correlation between MFG size and milk fat content. Moreover, larger MFG size was observed in the milk when cows had been fed protected fat. The significantly higher (P< 0.05) free fatty acid content of milk observed under this experimental condition could be attributed to higher milking frequency as a result of using AMS.

This study researched the characteristics and causal connections of the Hanwoo brand`s development process from the viewpoint of administrative districts and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of their management system. The purpose was to analyze marketing strategy and performance by tasks derived from case research on Neulpureum HongCheon Hanwoo which is the city and county brand, in order to suggest a marketing strategy for Hanwoo brand. Existing government policy for Hanwoo brand, which is focused on expansion of the brand to a wide area, have difficulty establishing a marketing strategy based on regional character because the city and county brands have to quickly follow the large scale brand structure. As a research result, if the Hanwoo brand can preliminarily solve the limit of increasing brand member farms,the duplicate roles of Hanwoo related institutes, the occurrence of dual decision making, and conflicting interests, then they can prepare the foundation for not only medium and short term results but also a long term marketing strategy through long term goal setting. Also, this can secure a sustainable base through agricultural output of high income crops in the region and perform the key role of regional agricultural development.

Only 1.5% of dairy farms in Korea is using AMS due to high cost and the limited information about the AMS. In this study, we surveyed an awar-eness and adoption attitude of the AMS. All data were collected from eighty dairy farms there they are using conventional milking systems (CMS). Nearly half of dairy farmers (49 farms) already knows about AMS and almost 20% of CMS farms answered to be heard the AMS. The main reason to adopt AMS was for reducing workforce on dairy farm. However, most of dairy farms have the budget problems to buy AMS. In conclusion, if the Korean government support some budget for AMS adaptation or development of inexpensive AMS, the rate of AMS dairy farm will increase up to 20% like EU country.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of different types of milking instrument and season on milk composition (fat, protein, non-fat milk solids, milk urea nitrogen and somatic cell count) on Holstein-Friesian lactating cows. Raw milk samples were collected from 20 automatic milking system (AMS) installed dairy farms and 85 conventional milking system (CMS) installed dairy farms. Milk fat, protein, NFMS and MUN contents did not changed between AMS and CMS and different seasons. On the other hand, the average SCC in AMS was $239{\times}10^3cells/mL$ which was lower than in CMS ($373{\times}10^3cells/mL$, (p<0.05). In conclusion, present results indicated that SCC in milk might be influenced by AMS. However, this area needed more study to confirm the reason of reducing SCC content from AMS.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the expansion of HACCP application and its afterward plans in order to increase consumers` trust from securing the safety of livestock products and to enhance the differentiated factors compared to imported livestock products. While the HACCP maintenance fees have continuously occurred for Hanwoo farms, which were designated for HACCP thereby increasing their management fees, there have been no direct income-increasing factors, so it is necessary to establish appropriate afterward management plans. In 2008, for 30 Hanwoo farms in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do that were designated for HACCP, the free antibiotic certification system to be qualified for 2011 direct payment system for the environment-friendly safe livestock products, which have been executed by the government, was executed to reduce the cost such as investigation fees, examination fees, and training fees that can occur from the 2011 afterward management. Therefore, the cost analysis for HACCP designation and afterward management, as well as the problems, were induced for expanded application of HACCP and to suggest the appropriate afterward management plan.
