The Fixer 에 나타난 자유의 꿈

Bernard Malamud's fourth novel, The Fixer, is a work of high literary intent, for all the themes which had introduced in his earlier works, some of the most significant are the search for a new life, the prison motif, the necessity for involvement, the value of suffering, the scapegoat or orphan motif, etc., were refined and reworked in this books. But in my view, one of the most significant themes here is $quot;the dream of freedom$quot; achieved by the protagonist, Yakov Bok, at the end of it by the dream and hallucination technique. In his search for the increased opportunity outside of the prison-like confines of shtetl, his native village, Yakov Bok foolishly hides his Jewish identity and denies their God. For example, he shaved off his beard, changed his name to a Russian and threw his bag of prayer things into the Dnieper. So, not long after he had arrived in kiev the city of the anti-Semites, he was arrested and charged with ritual murder of a Christian boy. Inside the actual prison, by refusing to confess and betray Russian Jewry, he accepts responsibility for the Jewish community and becomes actively involved in the fate of his people. And he also accepts his childless, delinquent wife, and her child as his own. It brings us to the humanity in Malamud. But, above all, Malamud's greatness in this book is attributed to his most serious touch of freedom, the everlasing ideal of human race. We realize that Yakov becomes a brave freeman if we focuses on his last vision, $quot;If the state acts in ways that are abhorrent to human nature it's the lesser evil to destory it. Death to the anti-Semites! Long live revolution! Long live liberty!$quot;

상악 좌측 측절치 결손을 동반한 골격성 III급 부정교합 환자의 선수술 치험례

This case report describes a surgery-first orthognathic treatment of a skeletal Class III patient with congenital missing of a maxillary lateral incisor. A 24-year-old male presented with a chief complaint of mandibular prognathism. Clinical examination showed concave facial profile with moderate crowding. Intraorally, he exhibited both Class III molar relationship, mild crowding in both arches, and 3.0 mm negative overjet. The maxillary dental midline was deviated 3.0 mm to the left, caused by congenital missing of the maxillary left lateral incisor. The cephalometric analysis showed skeletal Class III malocclusion with a hyperdivergent pattern. For skeletal overcorrection of mandibular prognathism and asymmtery, bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy was performed with surgery-first approach. To correct the maxillary midline deviation, maxillary right second premolar was extracted. Maxillary left lateral incisor was substituted with the canine by orthodontic space closure. With careful pre-operative orthodontic planning, surgery-first orthognathic treatment was successfully treated with satisfying esthetics.

감마선 폭발의 초기관측을 위한 Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) 프로젝트의 현황

감마선폭발 (Gamma Ray Burst) 사건에서 아직 관측이 안되고 있는 초기 방출 광자에 대한 연구를 위하여 Ultra Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) 인공위성 프로젝트가 제안되었다. 이 탑재체의 주요 기기로써, 감마선 폭발의 위치를 측정하기 위하여 coded mask 기반의 X-ray 광시야각 망원경인 UFFO Burst Alert X-ray Trigger Telescope (UBAT)와 감마선 폭발의 자외선 및 가시광 초기 후광관측을 위한 Slewing Mirror Telescope (SMT)가 있다. UFFO 프로젝트는 한국이 주도하고 미국, 대만, 러시아, 덴마크, 스페인, 프랑스, 노르웨이, 폴란드가 참여하는 9개국 국제공동연구이며, 2011년 11월 UFFO pathfinder가 러시아 인공위성인 Lomonosov에 실려 발사될 예정이다. 차세대 UFFO-100는 2015년 발사 목표로 연구가 시작되고 있다. UFFO pathfinder의 현재 진행상황과 가능한 연구에 대하여 논의한다.

고등학생용 스트레스 반응 척도의 교차 타당성과 신뢰성

The purpose of this study was to examine cross-validity and reliability of the stress response scale by Lim & Eto(1998). The stress response scale consists of 22 subscales of 65 items for lugh school students. Three hundred eight high school students completed the stress response scale, and 116 students among them completed the same scale in one month to examine the test-retest reliability of the scale. As results of test-retest, reliability of subscales of the stress response scale ranged form .49 to .81 and 3 integrated scales were .78, .74 and .73. And, confirmatory factor analyses were applied to the data for cross-validation of the scale. The results indicated that the stress response scale has enough high reliability and validity.

옥외광고물 개선사업 색채 이미지 분석 평가: 마포구 서교로를 중심으로

도시의 차별성, 즉 정체성은 그 도시만의 차별화된 이미지 구축을 위한 창의적인 정책 및 전략개발을 통해 이루어져야 하며, 환경색채를 통한 도시 정체성의 확보는 그 도시만의 특성을 가장 효율적으로 드러낼 수 있는 효과적인 방법이다. 최근 지자체별로 공공디자인에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 관련 사업들이 수립되고 있다. 그렇지만 대부분의 사업들이 지역 고유의 특성을 반영하지 못하고 획일적인 사업결과가 나타나는 것이 대부분의 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 옥외광고물 개선교체사업의 개선·변경 설치 시 사용된 색채계획을 통해 자치단체의 지역 정체성을 확보할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 데 그 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 마포구 서교로만의 고유한 지역 정체성을 확립하기 위해 시행된 옥외광고물 개선교체사업에서의 색채가 가진 고유 이미지와 도시경관 속 옥외광고물의 실제 이미지를 비교하여 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 관련 사업들의 환경색채계획 현황을 살펴보고, 정책의 반영 여부와 함께 사업의 원활할 진행을 방해하는 요소에 대한 개선을 통해 서울의 도시 정체성을 확보할 수 있는 방안을 모색해보고자 한다. 이를 통해 서울시 각 지역의 도시 정체성을 확립할 수 있는 경관색채를 계획·제안하는 권역별 색채사용 가이드라인을 정립함으로써 지역의 정체성을 확고히 할 수 있게 하여 가로의 지역적 특성을 고려한 옥외광고물의 색채를 계획 시 지표를 제시할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다. The differentiation of a city, that is, the identity, is to be accomplished by a creative policy and strategic development for the establishment of a differentiated image of the city. The securing of the urban identity through environmental colors is one of the effective ways to highlight the characteristics of the city in the most efficient way. As local governments showed high interests in public design recently, a lot of related businesses have been carried out although most of them have led to a similar result without reflecting the uniqueness of the region. Thus, this study aims to explore the way to secure identity of local governments through color planning with regard to revision and modification to outdoor advertising units. To this end, the unique image of colors and the actual image of outdoor advertising units in urban views are compared in relation to the revision and replacement of outdoor advertising units to establish the unique identity of Seogyo-ro, Mapo-gu. In addition, examined are the current situations of environmental color planning in related businesses, and the ways to secure the identity of Seoul City by improving the disturbances of carrying out projects as well as reflecting them in policies. By establishing the guideline for regional view color suggesting and planning in an effort to enhance the urban identity of each part of Seoul, this study is expected to help securing of the regional identity, and present the direction of planning colors for outdoor advertising units in relation to the characteristics of streets.

Bernard Malamud의 Humanism : The FIxer를 중심으로

The aim of this paper is to study Malamud's humanism in The Fixer. Bernard Malamud, one of the major Jewish American novelists treats "humanism" as one of the most significant themes in this book. In his search for the increased opportunity outside of shtetl, Yakov was arrested in Kiev, the city of anti-Semites, and charged with ritual murder of a Christian boy. In a solitary cell for two and a half year he is brutalized and dehumanized. In my view, his unendurable suffering is caused historically by the tragedy of Jewishness as born-loser and Schlemiel. In his soliary confinement, Yakov is kept in chains and experienced beating hunger, numbing cold, humiliating search six times a day. And he is offered the ways to escape his hard suffering. But he refuses the baits because he knows that his escape will be used against the Jews. And he comes to realized that a man can choose to make his suffering meaningful. This awareness is reflected in his changing attitude toward. Raisl, his wife, who is guilty of adultery: he accept his childless, delinquent wife, and her child, Chaim, as his legitimate son. It brings us to the humanism in Malamud. And what we have to note in Yakov is the change of recognition of history. His view of history has changed after suffering from deterministic to reformative one. In conclusion The Fixer explores the human suffering caused by racial injustice to Jews and expresses the humanism that can transcend this suffering. Malamud's message is clear the we must struggle for the recovery of humanity.
