Because of the potential for relatively high radiation levels from computed tomography, there has been an increasing concerns in measuring and evaluating the doses delivered during CT procedures. In Korea, utilization of CT examnination has been increased gradually every year after CT examination was included at national health insurance system in 1996, and spread of multi detector CT equipment as well as spiral scanning CT equipment with rapid technological development have increased use of CT examination. But radiation exposure that patients received during CT procedures also shows a tendency to increase by reason of acquiring more diagnostic accuracy and high quality images. This study was conducted to estimate absorbed radiation doses associated with CT examinations, to compare CT dose index between single detector CT and multi detector CT, and to make suggestion of basic data necessary to establish radiation dose criteria in CT examination in Korea by using CT ionization chamber dosimetry system and acrylic phantoms at 32 CT equipments in Seoul and kyungki-do.
