In this experimental study, the behavior of hybrid beams-beams consisting of higher-strength steel flanges connected by lower-strength steel web-is examined and compared with the behavior of homogeneous beams. The test results show close agreement between the behavior of hybrid beams and the behavior of homogeneous beams. But, the ultimate load for the homogeneous beam is larger than the ultimate load for the hybrid beam because of the larger contribution of homogeneous-beam web to ultimate bending strength.

In this experimental study, the hysteretic behavior of hybrid beams-beams consisting of higher-strength steel flanges connected by lower-strength steel web-is examined and compared with the hysteretic behavior of homogeneous beams. The test results show close agreement between the hysteretic behavior of hybrid beams and the hysteretic behavior of homogeneous beams. But, the energy absorption capacity for the homogeneous beam is larger than the energy absorption capacity for the hybrid beam because of the larger contribution of homogeneous-beam web.
