Suppressive Effects of Dihydroxyanthraquinone Derivatives against Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase

Inhibitory effects of Cassia tora seed-derived materials against nitric oxide (NO) production were determined via evaluation of NO production. Inhibitory effects of 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone and 1,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone against NO production were 71.5 and 61.1% at 5 μg/mL, respectively. The suppressive effects of 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone completely blocked iNOS protein expression at 20 μM.
Suppression Effect of Curcuma longa Rhizome-Derived Components against Nitric Oxide Synthase

The inhibitory effects of Curcuma longa rhizome-derived materials against nitric oxide (NO) pro-duction were assessed. The inhibitory effect (57%) on NO production was evidenced by the meth-anol extract of C. longa at 1 µg/mL. In the fractionation of the methanol extract, the ethyl acetate fraction evidenced an inhibitory effect greater than 62.1% at 1 µg/mL. The active constituent was identified as curcumin. Curcumin exerted potent inhibitory effects of 78.7 and 65.7% at concentra-tions of 1 and 0.5 µg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, the inhibitory effect of ar-turmerone was mea-sured as 31.3 and 15.8% at 1 and 0.5 µg/mL, respectively. The iNOS expression-suppressive effects of curcumin were assessed via western blot analysis. Our results suggest that curcumin and ar-tur-merone may prove useful in the development of new types of NO inhibitors.
Suppression Effect of Purpurin Derivatives on Nitric Oxide Synthase

The inhibitory effects of Rubia tinctorum root-derived materials against nitric oxide (NO)production were assessed by evaluation of NO production and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) expression, and compared to those of trihydroxyanthraquinone derivatives. The inhibitory effect of 1,2,4-trihydroxyanthraquinone (purpurin) from R. tinctorum roots against NO production was 60.7 and 38.5% at 2.5 and 1.25 μg/mL, respectively. Inhibitory effect of 1,2,7-trihydroxyanthraquinone was 52.5% at 2.5 μg/mL. Suppression effects of 1,2,4-trihydroxyanthraquinone on iNOS expression were confirmed by western blot analysis.
Pesticidal Constituents Derived from Piperaceae Fruits

Fungicidal, insecticidal, and mosquito larvicidal activities of piperidine alkaloids, pipernonaline and piperoctadecalidine, and isobutylamide alkaloids, pellitorine, guineensine, pipercide, and retrofractaminde A, derived from Piperaceae fruits were studied. Pipernonaline and piperoctadecalidine showed potent fungicidal activities against Puccinia recondita with 91 and 80% control values at 500 ppm. Against Phytophthora infestans, pipernonaline showed strong fungicidal activity with 91 and 80% control values at 1,000 and 500 ppm. LD50 values of pipernonaline and piperoctadecalidine against Plutella xylostella were 125 and 95.5 ppm, respectively, and that of piperoctadecalidine against Tetranychus urticae was 246 ppm. Against larvae of Aedes aegypti and Culex pipiens pallens, LD50 values of pipernonaline were 0.35 and 0.21 ppm, respectively. Highest larvicidal activities of pipercide and retrofractamide A were found against A. aegypti, A. togoi, and C. pipiens pallens. LD50 values of pipercide and retrofractamide A were 0.10 and 0.039 ppm against A. aegypti, 0.26 and 0.01 ppm against A. togoi, and 0.004 and 0.028 ppm against C. pipiens pallens, respectively. Based upon these results and earlier findings, bioactive components derived from Piperaceae fruits may be valuable for development of useful lead product of possibly safer fungicidal, insecticidal, and mosquito larvicidal agents.

The inhibitory effects of components derived from Cinnamomum cassia leaf on nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 cells and on expression of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) were determined and compared to those of three commercially available components. Spectral analysis characterized the active constituent of this C. cassia extract as cinnamyl alcohol. The inhibitory effects varied with both chemical and concentration used. Cinnamyl alcohol showed inhibitory effects on NO production of 62.5%, 41.8%, and 22.1% at 1.0, 0.5, and 0.1 µg/µL, respectively. However, little or no inhibitory effect was observed for cedrene, cinnamic acid, copaene, eugenol, and limonene. Suppression effects of cinnamyl alcohol on iNOS expression were revealed by Western blot analysis. As a naturally occurring therapeutic agent, cinnamyl alcohol could be useful for developing new types of NO inhibitors.
개인 흡수역량과 그릿이 개인혁신에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 디지털 리터러시의 조절효과 검증

본 연구에서는 다양하게 급변하게 변화하는 융·복합 시대에 주도적이고 능동적으로 역량을 강화하기 위한 방안을 강구하고자 한다. 이를 위해 최근 주목받고 있는 주된 요소들을 대상으로 이들 간 영향관계를 파악하였고 조절효과를 검증하였다. 검증 결과 개인 흡수역량, 그릿, 개인혁신, 디지털 리터리시 간 관계를 통해 다양성 있는 해석을 하였고 실질적인 시사점을 제시함과 동시에 결론을 도출할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 회귀분석 및 조절효과 분석 방법론을 적용하였고, 그 결과 개인 흡수역량이 높을수록 개인혁신도 높아짐을 확인할 수 있었고, 대학생의 그릿이 높을수록 개인혁신도 높아짐을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 디지털 리터러시는 개인 흡수역량이 개인혁신에 영향을 미칠 때 조절효과를 나타낸다는 점을 검증하였다. This study aims to actively and proactively seek strategies to enhance capabilities in the rapidly changing era of convergence and complexity. To achieve this objective, we focused on key factors currently attracting attention, explored their interrelationships, and verified moderating effects. The verification results allowed for diverse interpretations through the relationships among individual absorptive capacity, grit, individual innovation, and digital literacy. Practical implications were presented, and conclusions were drawn simultaneously. To fulfill the study's purpose, we applied regression analysis and moderation analysis methodologies. The results confirmed that higher individual absorptive capacity is associated with increased individual innovation, and higher grit among university students is linked to elevated individual innovation. Additionally, the study validated the moderating effect of digital literacy when it influences the relationship between individual absorptive capacity and individual innovation.

Methanol extracts from 25 seed samples belonging to the family Leguminosae were subjected to an in vitro screening for their growth-promoting and inhibitory activities towards Bifidobacterium adolescentis, B. longum, B. bifidum, and Lactobacillus casei, using spectrophotometric and paper disc agar diffusion methods under O₂-free conditions, respectively. The responses varied with both bacterial strains and plant species. Among seed extracts, extracts from Glycine max (light-green color) and Arachis hypogaea (dark-brown) enhanced the growth of lactic acid bacteria in media with or without carbon sources, suggesting that bifidus factor(s) might be involved in the phenomenon. This growth-promoting effect was most pronounced with L. casei among lactic acid bacteria used. Additionally, all seed extracts did not adversely affect the growth of the lactic acid bacteria tested.
