The objective of this paper was to investigate the slip rate and the slip frequency number of damper clutch of torque converter in 2.4L passenger vehicle with 5-speed A/T and analyze the effect of slip control and control strategy on driving characteristics and the fuel economy. The newly developed torque converter with the more durable wet friction material and the slip-controlled damper clutch system, the DCC system, was installed, which was easily compatible and amendable of the lock-up clutch of the base system. The vehicle has been tested on the fuel economy modes such as FTP-75, HWFET and NEDC (ECE15+EUDC) driving cycle at chassis dynamometer. The DCC mode (Ⅱ), of which the control strategy had both the lock-up and the slip-controlled clutch, and the DCC mode (Ⅰ) with full slip-controlled clutch were compared with the base system with only the lock-up clutch. As the research result, comparison to base system, the fuel consumption of the vehicle with the DCC control (Ⅱ) was effectively improved by 6.6% and 7.7% on FTP-75 and NEDC mode.
초음파 에너지 조사 시간과 분사지연에 따른 BD20의 디젤기관 연소특성에 관한 실험 연구

An object of this study is to understand the correlation between the characteristics of an engine performance and combustion characteristics, applying BD20 fuel reformed by ultrasonic energy irradiation to diesel engines. Before conducting the main experiment, an experiment was performed to determine the optimum injection timimg of reformed BD20 by ultrasonic energy irradiation. To control the duration of the ultrasonic energy irradiation, the capacity of an ultrasonic energy fuel supply system was tested with 550cc and 1100cc chambers. As the result of the analysis of the regular BD20 and reformed BD20 by ultrasonic energy irradiation, the BSFC and the Power of the reformed BD20 was improved 3% and 6%, respectively compared to those of non-irradiated BD20. When the fuel injection timing was delayed by 5°, the engine power was improved by 3%, and the BSFC was improved by 2%. The maximum cylinder pressure of reformed BD20 was improved by a maximum of 6% in comparison to that of regular BD20, and demonstrated a synergistic effect of 3% by delaying the injection timing 5°.

In recent years, the technologies for reduction of fuel consumption have became increasingly important due to protecting the global environment in an automotive industry. In line with this trend, energy loss in the transmission was mostly associated with the damper clutch slip in a torque converter. The aims of this paper were to introduce and evaluate of the characteristics of slip-controlled damper clutch system developed for the 5-speed transmission of 2,400 cc gasoline engine. The control design of technique was based on the PID controller with respect to engine road. At proving ground, driving characteristics of vehicle according to slip control parameters were evaluated. To attain slip-controlled damper clutch system, fuel economy mode test such as FTP-75 mode, Highway mode and NEDC mode for vehicle were conducted. As a results, fuel consumption of vehicle with slip-controlled damper clutch system effectively decreased by 5.5%, compared to the base system at FTP-75 mode.

In this paper, it is discussed that the NOx and smoke emission performances in a Diesel engine equipped with 2-stage VGT(variable geometry turbocharger) and EGR loop systems of 2 types As the installation of 2 stage VGT system, intake air flow rate could be increased. So, Nox could be reduced by high EGR rate compared with the base single VGT system. And , in EGR loop type engine tests, characteristics of LP(low pressure) and HP(high pressure) EGR system with 2-stage VGT system have been investigated. In these tests, performances of Lp loop EGR system have been seriously effected by the back pressure caused by BPV(back pressure valve) angle and EGR loop system.
디젤엔진의 EGR 순환계 형식에 따른 과급기 작동 특성에 관한 연구

In recently, various researches on technical method for reduction of PM and NOx from Diesel engine have been performed. Especially, it is considered that adoption of VGT and EGR system is essential technical method to reduce the PM and NOx emissions. And, to reduce NOx emissions, many attempt to adopt of special EGR loop systems including low pressure EGR loop are ongoing now. But, EGR system is composed with turbocharger system, so characteristics of EGR system are related with or restricted by turbocharger or boost system. In this study, it is investigated on the turbocharger operating characteristics and EGR loop characteristics in 2 types of EGR loop systems (High pressure loop EGR system and Low pressure loop EGR systems) to support basic information on the optimal EGR and VGT systems for PM and NOx reduction in Diesel engine. From theses test, it is understood that LP loop EGR systems has more safe characteristics on compressor surge limit and higher EGR rate at same A/F conditions compared with HP loop EGR system.

Amount of PM from Diesel engine is restricted by regulations. So, many researched on the reduction method of PM from Diesel engine have been performed. But measurement of PM mass with MDT is very expensive and hard. So, in mant engine researches, Smoke meter or Opacimeter is used to measure smoke performances. In this study, relationships between tests results from 3type equipment(smoke meter, opacimeter, MDT) are introduced also effects of HC concentrations on the Total PM mass concentrations are investigated with total PM model.

Recently social awareness on environmental issues including air pollution has been raised, and related laws and regulations have been reinforced. In the circumstances, the development of common rail diesel engine has been progressed, which can correspond with EURO Ⅳ & Ⅴ and has low-noise, strong-power and excellent fuel efficiency. This research aims to develop parts for Advanced Fuel/Oil Filtering Re-circulation applicable to this kind of regulation proof engines. These parts can playa role of converting traditional air emission type crankcase into recovery type crankcase so that the engine can deal with environmental regulations, which do not allow minimal amount of toxic gas discharge. The results showed that emission characteristics of the vehicle after install CCV(Crankcase Ventilation) System was higher than before install CCV system in vehicle emission test.

The emission reduction technology for diesel vehicle is classified as fuel substitution, improvement of diesel combustion quality, and development of diesel exhaust gas after-treatment. The most effective way for the emission reduction technology is known as to be exhaust gas after-treatment system, and this field of research is evaluated by many groups. The Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) system has many advantages of reducing particulates and harmful gaseous substances such as CO, HC. Also, it is simple in device structure, relatively low cost, and easy to install without retrofitting the vehicle. Recently, the DOC system has been used for the most diesel vehicles in the European countries. In this study constructed a new fast aging mode for DOC and carried out conversion efficiency test for fresh and aged catalyst. Also it was evaluated the de-activation characteristics of DOC according to the aging time and applied load conditions.<br/>
