The analysis shows that the vibration is one of the main reasons of turbine failure. Especially, the problems caused by vibration occur right after retrofit of the turbine-generator and restarting the turbine. Through the case study of high vibration caused by after the turbine trip and restart, turbine vibration was identified to be influenced by startup condition. Turbine startup at high casing temperature right after unscheduled turbine trip cause radial expansion in rotor by contraction in axial direction, while casing continues to contract by steam flowing into casing. Consequently, gap between rotor and casing decrease until to metal contact to cause high vibration. Through the case study of high vibration of turbine-generator system after generator retrofit, it was identified that generator replacement could cause high vibration in turbine-generator system if the influence of generator replacement on entire system was not considered properly. To prevent startup delay caused by high vibration, it is important to keep the gaps at the design standard and start the turbine after thermal equilibrium.

Turbine journal bearings are designed to support the weight of the rotors on a hydrodynamic oil film and to provide dynamic stability to the rotor system. The life time of journal bearings is infinite theoretically because the journal bearings are separated from the shaft journal by oil film. But poor design, assembly, operation and maintenance can cause problems to the journal bearings. The FMEA(Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) results of the journal bearings show that frequent maintenance of the journal bearings can cause failures and reduction of the bearing life. Therefore, the maintenance periods and history of the journal bearings with the bearing FMEA results are reviewed in order to establish the optimized maintenance period of the journal bearing for the nuclear power plants. Consequently it is necessary to maintain a best condition of lubrication system, reject time-based maintenance and perform the condition-based maintenance of journal bearings in order to maintain optimum condition of the journal bearing.
발전기교체로 인한 축계의 비틀림 고유주파수 영향 및 측정결과 고찰

Recently, turbine-generators have been replaced for the integrity reinforcement and the efficiency improvement, also, the blade's failures of LP turbines due to torsional vibration have been reported. Excessive torsional vibrations can result in failures of components. The severity of torsional oscillations and stress depends upon the separation margin between the excitation frequencies and torsional natural frequencies. Therefore it is needed to measure the torsional natural frequencies after replacement of the components to conform the separation margin of torsional natural frequencies. In this study torsional vibration measurements were performed after LP turbine and generator replacement and the torsional natural frequencies for the turbine-generator train were calculated to evaluate the effects of generator replacement on torsional natural frequencies of turbine-generator train. It is expected that these evaluation results will be used effectively to identify the root causes of torsional vibration problems.

Factors influence on the results of the pump field performance test are originating from the inside of the pump and from the outside of the pump. The factors originating from the outside of the pump are as follows. First, it is an error of the instruments. If the instrument is not properly calibrated or properly installed, it may show an error above the tolerance. Second, the reading error of the meter. If there is a large flow and pressure fluctuation, there may be a difference depending on who reads the meter. Third, it does not accurately reflect position difference of inlet and outlet pressure gauge, pipe friction loss and speed head. Several times of field performance test was conducted to analyze the cause of the performance difference between the factory performance test and the field performance test of the centrifugal pump. The factors influence on the pump performance were identified, and it is conformed how each factors influence on the pump performance.

But poor design, assembly and operation can cause problems to the journal bearings. The FMEA results of the journal bearings refer that often maintenance of the journal bearings can cause failures and reduction of the bearing life. So, to maintain optimum bearing condition, it is necessary to provide a sufficient flow of clean oil to each bearing and optimize the journal bearings maintenance frequency.
