본 연구는 집단지성의 대표 사례로 평가받고 있는 위키피디어에 대한 분석을 통하여, 네트워크 사회의 집단지성이 전통적인 전문가주의와 어떻게 충돌하며, 집단지성의 성립 조건은 무엇인지를 밝힌다. 위키피디어 집단지성은 전문가와 아마추어 대중이 백과사전 지식의 편찬 작업에 서로 협력할 수 있다는 원칙적 관념으로는 설명할 수 없는 다양한 형태의 반전문가주의 문화를 드러내고 있다. 그것은 위키-실력주의, 전문성의 협소함, 전문가 신드롬, 전문가의 편향성 등의 문제와 관련되어 있다. 또한 위키피디어 집단지성은 개방성, 다양성, 개별성, 탈중심적 협력, 실시간 조정 등과 같은 네트워크 사회 권위 형성의 새로운 조건을 발전시키고 있다. 네트워크 사회에서 권위는 더 이상 소수의 전문가와 엘리트가 독점하고 중앙 집중적인 방식으로 행사되는 것이 아니라, 점점 더 탈중심 네트워크 속에서 다중의 자유로운 상호작용과 수평적 협력의 원리를 이해하고 관철시키는 것 속에서 비로소 형성될 수 있을 것이다. By conducting a case study of Wikipedia, one of the most representative sites of collective intelligence, this paper examines how collective intelligence is in conflicts with conventional expertism and what constitutes the conditions of collective intelligence. Wikipedian collective intelligence reveals various forms of anti-expertism related with wiki-meritocracy, narrowness of expertise, expert syndrome, and neutrality of experts. Wikipedian collective intelligence also develops new conditions for social authority in network society including openness, diversity, singularity, decentralized collaboration, and real-time coordination. Social authority in a network society can no longer be monopolized by elites and experts and exercised in a centralized way. It could only be formed in realizing the principles of free interaction and horizontal cooperation between multitude in decentralized networks.
