Purpose: We report a case of an intraorbital foreign body removed in a walk-in patient using a magnet under fluoroscopy. Methods: A patient walked into the eye clinic complaining of ocular pain caused by foreign body that pernetrated into his right lower eyelid while mowing the lawn one day before he came to the hospital. Since an orbital foreign body was observed when the patient entered the hospital, and a high-density metallic response was diagnosed within the orbit from a computerized tomogram, we performed an emergency operation to take out the foreign body within the orbit. Results: We removed the metallic foreign body, which was 5 mm in size and buried in the orbital fat, in an operation using a magnet under fluoroscopy. Conclusions: This study shows that fluoroscopy and magnets are an efficient operative means of removing foreign bodies that are found within the orbital fat layer and are difficult to access.

Fowl의 근위점막이 실험동물의 혈액학적 변화에 미치는 실험적 연구 - I. 닭의 혈액상에 미치는 영향

본 실험은 닭의 근위점막 분말의 투여가 동물의 혈액학적 변화에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 근위점막(계내금)을 1일 사료섭취량의 $1\%$구(T.), $2\%$구$(T_2)$, $3\%$구$(T_3)$ 및 대조구(무처리구)에서 Babcock B-380의 성계 60수를 공시하여 8주간 Cage에서 사육한 후 혈액상을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 각 처리구별 적혈구치는 $T_3$구$(2.57{\pm}0.26\times10^6/mm^3)$, $T_2$구$(2.23{\pm}0.10\times10^6/mm^3)$, $T_1$구$(2.38{\pm}0.40\times10^6/mm^3)$ 및 C구$(2.17{\pm}0.10\times10^6/mm^3)$의 순이었고 그 평균치는 $2.34{\pm}0.21\times10^6/mm^3$로서, 대체로 처리구(첨가구)가 대조구(무처리구)보다 유의적으로 높은 경향이었다. 2. 각 처리구별 Hemoglobin함량은 $T_3$구$(9.13{\pm}0.14gm/100ml)$, $T_2$구$(7.78{\pm}0.40gm/100ml)$ 및 $T_1$구$(7.44{\pm}0.48gm/100ml)$의 순이었고 그 평균치는 $8.06{\pm}0.28gm/100ml$ 로서, 처리구와 대조구간에 유의성은 확인되지 않았다. (p<0.01). 3. 각 처리구별 백혈구치는 C구$(1.81{\pm}0.63\times10^4/mm^3)$, $T_1$구$(1.69{\pm}0.12\times10^4/mm^3) $, $T_2$구$(1.61{\pm}0.16\times10^4/mm^3)$ 및 $T_3$구$(1.56{\pm}0.20_10^4/mm^3)$의 순이었고 그 평균치는 $1.67{\pm}0.23\times10^4/mm^3$으로서, 첨가량이 많아질수록 낮아지는 경향이었다. 4. 밸혈구백분비는 Lymphocytes $60.98{\pm}1.76\%$, Heterophils $22.75{\pm}2.27\%$, Eosinophils $3.17{\pm}0.95\%$, Basophils $2.17{\pm}0.85\%$ 및 Monocytes $10.84{\pm}2.02\%$였다. 5. 적혈구의 크기는 $12.01{\pm}0.74\mu\times6.82{\pm}0.10\mu\times3.57{\pm}0.08\mu$(장경$\times$단경$\times$두께)였다. Zoogloea ramigera 115와 Zoogloea ramigera 115SLR의 중금속 흡착능 비교

Capsular polymer인 zooglan을 생산하는 Z. ramigera 115와 수용성 slime polymer 생산 변이주인 Z. ramigera 115SLR의 중금속 제거능을 비교하였다. 중금속 5종(Cd^2+, Co^2+, Cu^2+, Ni^2+, Fe^2+)의 최저 생장저해농도는 두 균주 모두 유사하였다. Cd^2+을 첨가하지 않은 경우에 비해 Cd^2+ 500 ppm을 첨가한 액체 배지에서의 생체량은 Z. ramigera 115는 24%, Z. ramigera 115SLR은 50%로 감소하였고 동일한 생체량에 대하여 Z. ramigera 115SLR이 Z. ramigera 115보다 Cd^2+을 1.5배 더 제거하였다. 세포와 polymer를 분리하여 중금속 흡착능을 비교한 결과 polymer가 세포보다 높은 흡착량을 나타냈으며 최저 중금속 흡착 pH는 7.5였다. Langmuir 흡착등온선과 Freundlich 흡착등온선을 분석한 결과 Cd^2+에 대하여 Z. ramigera 115SLR polymer는 Z. ramigera 115 및 이온 교환 수지보다 높은 최대흡착량과 흡착안정성을 보여서 흡착제로서 유용할 것으로 판단된다. Heavy metal removal by Z. ramigera 115 and soluble slime polymer producing mutant Z. ramigera 115SLR was investigated. Both strains showed similar tolerance against Cd^2+, Co^2+, Cu^2+, Ni^2+ and Fe^2+. When cells were cultivated in the presence of 500 ppm Cd^2+, the mutant strain removed 1.5 fold more metal than the wild type did at same biomass. Metal adsorption capacities were in the order of Z. ramigera 115SLR polymer>Z. ramigera 115 polymer>Z. ramigera 115 cell>Z. ramigera 115SLR cell. The optimum pH for metal adsorption was 7.5. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms indicated that Qmax and 1/n of Z. ramigera 115SLR polymer were 164.2 ㎎ Cd^2+/g dw and 0.496, respectively. To investigate the effects of submersion aging in chilled water on tenderness and microbial growth of vacuum-packed beef, the semimembranosus muscles of Hanwoo (Korean cattle) was sampled at a commercial meat plant at 24 hrs postmortem. The samples were cut to 2.5 ㎝ thick steaks and randomly assigned to following two treatments. The samples were stored in conventional refrigerator at 4℃ after vacuum packaging for control whereas the other vacuum-packed samples were submersed in chilled water at 1℃ for treatment, and both samples were stored for 14 days to measure total plate counts (TPC), sarcomere length, free calcium concentration, shear force value and myofibrillar fragmentation index (MFI).
