The application of Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as after-treatment system has been studied to reduce particle mater(PM) in exhaust gas form vehicle, but there is one challenge which is a regeneration method in the low temperature region. In this study, reforming reaction of diesel fuel was applied as regeneration method. Reforming reaction of diesel fuel to reformate (H₂ and CO) was conducted on PUCe/Al₂O₃ that was made through impregnation method. Reformate was mixed with exhaust gas and gas mixture was injected to DOC. Possibility to apply reforming system was evaluated with the temperature of the exhaust gas on the rear of DOC. In condition that the temperature of exhaust gas was 150℃, the temperature of exhaust gas on the rear of DOC was easily heated to more than 450℃ by reformate of diesel fuel.

The application of Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as after-treatment system has been studied to reduce particle mater(PM) in exhaust gas form vehicle, but there is one challenge which is a regeneration method in the low temperature region. In this study, DPF was heated with heating device that is consisted of two combustion catalyst. Diesel fuel(2'nd fuel) was oxidized on 2'nd combustion catalyst layer which was heated by thermal energy supplied from diesel fuel(1'st fuel) combustion on 1'st catalyst layer. DPF was mainly heating to more than 650℃ with 2'nd fuel and oxygen in exhaust was used as oxidant. An efficiency of 2'nd fuel combustion on 2'nd catalyst layer is dependent on flow rate and oxygen concentration. Thus 2'nd fuel was oxidized when oxygen concentration in an exhaust gas stream is high, but that was oxidized on DOC when oxygen concentration is low. Nevertheless temperature of front of DPF was maintained as 650±50℃ apart from a driving condition of vehicle.
