Algal genomics perspective: the pangenome concept beyond traditional molecular phylogeny and taxonomy

Algal genomics approaches provide a massive number of genome/transcriptome sequences and reveal the evolutionary history vis-à-vis primary and serial endosymbiosis events that contributed to the biodiversity of photosynthetic eukaryotes in the eukaryote tree of life. In particular, phylogenomic methods using several hundred or thousands of genes have provided new insights into algal taxonomy and systematics. Using this method, many novel insights into algal species diversity and systematics occurred, leading to taxonomic revisions. In addition, horizontal gene transfers (HGTs) of functional genes have been identified in algal genomes that played essential roles in environmental adaptation and genomic diversification. Finally, algal genomics data can be used to address the pangenome, including core genes shared among all isolates and partially shared strain-specific genes. However, some aspects of the pangenome concept (genome variability of intraspecies level) conflict with population genomics concepts, and the issue is closely related to defining species boundaries using genome variability. This review suggests a desirable future direction to merge algal pangenomics and population genomics beyond traditional molecular phylogeny and taxonomy.

스위칭 파형을 사용한 동조 N-Path Filter에 관한 연구

In this paper, a method based on N-Path principle is presented to design bandpass filters tunable over a fairly wide tuning range. The design represents a compromise between the complexity of the switching waveform and that of the auxiliary output filter. Broad tuning range has been made possible by use of switched band-limiting networks. The system transfer function of a switched N-Path Filter with a very general switching waveform is derived and the results are applies to a variety of practical situations. We know that the losses in the shift register degrades the amplitude characteristics and lowers the center frequency gain. The realization of this class N-Path Filter using time-multiplexing of the basic analog network is discussed.

연령관련황반변성에서 발생한 맥락막신생혈관에서 경동공온열치료의 효과

Purpose: To determine whether transpupillary thermotherapy can achieve significant efficacy in maintaining vision without significant adverse effects when used to treat age-related macular degeneration associated with choroidal neovascularization. Methods: Retrospective chart reviews were made for 33 eyes of 32 patients diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration, and who had received transpupillary thermotherapy due to the development of choroidal neovascularization. Transpupillary thermotherapy was performed 1.4 times on average. Results: Three months after the final therapy, 6 eyes (18%) showed improved vision, 11 eyes (34%) showed no change in vision, and 16 eyes (48%) showed worsening of vision. Of the 21 eyes of 21 patients who were available for optical coherence tomography before and after transpupillary thermotherapy, 19 eyes (90.5%) showed reduced macula thickness, and fundus photographs taken during the latest hospital visit revealed 11 eyes showing fibrosis. Conclusions: Although it negatively influences subretinal fluid absorption, transpupillary thermotherapy is effective in stabilizing choroidal neovascularization and improving visual accuracy in a short period of time. Thus, further study is warranted.

주파수 상태 신경 회로망을 이용한 음소 인식

본 논문에서는 음소의 시간 구조 특성만을 다룬 일반적인 TSNN 방법에 음소의 주파수 대역 구조를 포함시킨 신경 회로망을 제안한다. 제안된 신경 회로망에 음소(아, 이, 오, ㅅ, ㅊ, ㅍ, ㄱ, ㅇ, ㄹ, ㅁ)을 학습시켜 인식을 수행한 결과, 시간 인자 특성을 입력으로 음소를 인식한 일반적인 TDNN 방법 과 TSNN 방법보다 본 논문에서 시간과 주파수 인자를 동시에 입력으로 수행한 신경회로망 방법이 약간 더 나은 인식 결과를 보였다. This paper reports a new structure for phoneme recognition neural network. The proposed neural network is able to deal with the structure of the frequency bands as well as the temporal structure of phonemic features which used in the conventional TSNN. We trained this neural network using the phonetics (아, 이, 오, ㅅ, ㅊ, ㅍ, ㄱ, ㅇ, ㄹ, ㅁ) and the phoneme recognition of this neural network was a little better than those of conventional TDNN and TSNN using only temporal structure of phonemic features.

유리조직 이식술 99례 분석

Free flap transplantation demands meticulous microsurgical technique to cover the exposed vital structures which is important to restore and maintain functions of the extremities. From July 1992 through December 2000, 99 patients were received reconstructive microsurgery in the upper and lower extremity at Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Chonbuk National University Hospital. The most common cause in the upper extremity was industrial accident, 8 cases of total 15 cases and in the lower extremity was traffic accident, 66 cases of total 84 cases. The most commonly involved site was thumb and finger, 8 cases of total 15 cases and in the lower extremity was leg, 65 cases of total 84 cases. In upper extremity, the wrap around free flap was carried out in 4 cases(4.0%), first dorsal metatarsal artery flap and lateral arm flap were 3 cases(3.0%) each in 15 cases and in lower extremity, latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap were 23 cases(23.2%), gracilis 20cases(20.2%), and rectus abdominis muscle flap 18(18.2%) in 84 cases. Overall 89 cases(89.9%) of 99 cases were survived and maintained and revealed good cosmetic results.

박근 유리조직을 이용한 하지 재건술

전북대학교병원 정형외과에서 1994년 6월부터 1998년 3월까지 하퇴부 원위 1/3 및 족부에 시행하였던 박근 유리조직 이식술 12례에 대하여 최소 6개월부터 최고 4년 9개월까지 추시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 하퇴부 원위 1/3의 손상원인은 개방성 골절에 의한 뼈 및 연부조직노출이 4례(33.3%)였으며, 골절수술후 연부조직 괴사로 인한 2차 뼈 및 내고정물노출이 2례(16.7%)였고, 족부의 손상원인은 압궤손상 5례(41.7%), 골절치료시 발뒤꿈치의 압박괴사 1례(8.3%)였다. 2. 수여혈관은 하퇴부 원위 1/3에서는 전경골 동맥이 4례, 비골동맥과 족배동맥이 각각 1례였으며, 족부의 수여혈관은 족배동맥이 4례, 후 경골동맥이 2례였다. 수여정맥은 2개를 봉합함을 원칙으로 하였으나 하퇴부 원위 1/3에서 총 6례중 3례, 족부에서도 총 6례중 3례에서만 2개의 수여정맥 봉합술이 가능하였다. 3. 총 12례중 11례(91.7%)에서 술후 3주까지 관류(perfusion)가 가능하여 성공하였으며, 피부 이식술은 술 후 평균 22일만에 시행하였고, 재활운동은 술후 평균 32일만에 가능하였다. The gracilis muscle is well suited to small and medium-sized soft tissue defects that cannot be adequately handled by simple rotational flaps and it will conform well to irregular contours, can be split longitudinally at both ends to allow cavities and awkwardly shaped spaces and can be transferred in part or in whole. The gracilis muscle used as a free muscle or musculocutaneous flap is small with a long, narrow contour and its vascular pedicle is a terminal branch of the medial femoral circumflex artery and vein. The aims of soft tissue reconstruction are to cover soft tissue defects, to clear up infection and to prepare for further surgical procedures. Authors have performed 12 gracilis muscle flaps in the lower extremities at Chonbuk National University Hospital from June 1994 through March 1998. The results were as follows. 1. 11 cases of 12(91.7%) were sustained from the crushing injury and secondary complications from the traffic accident. 2. The microsurgical anastomosis of one artery and two veins have performed in 6 cases(50%) of 12 and 11(91.7%) cases of 12 were successful at the third postoperative week and in the final result. 3. Gracilis muscle flap is the infetion-resistant and aesthetically acceptable performed in the lower leg 1/3 and the foot.
