The tobacco whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), is a serious pest that transmits tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) in tomato. The tobacco whitefly exhibits morphological similarity with the greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) which also damages various plants in the green house. Therefore, it is very important to quickly and accurately diagnose whiteflies for applying pest manage ment strategies. In this study, we used a loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay to quickly and effectively detect B. tabaci. Primer sets were investigated for the specificity of B. tabaci by visible detection of the target DNA fragment. Two primer sets for pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide (PBAN) gene were obtained from transcriptomic analysis of B. tabaci biotype Q. The PBAN-based LAMP primer set showed specific amplification of the target region. The optimal conditions for B. tabaci detection were 60 ◦ C for 60 min with four LAMP primers of PBAN. The minimum amount of genomic DNA required for visible detection was 100 ng. These results suggest that the PBAN-based LAMP assay can be applicable for field monitoring of B. tabaci.

In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid flow in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism into account, i.e. radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, i.e., conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy together with the equations describing a k-ε model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. From these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer.
뇌병변 소아환자의 기립보조기 사용 시 접촉 패드 유형에 따른 근활성도 비교

본 연구에서는 Pneumatic air fitting system을 적용한 기립보조기 제품을 뇌병변 소아환자를 대상으로 기립보조기의 신체 고정용 폼패드(foam pad)와 에어패드(air pad) 사용 시, 뇌병변 장애아동들의 체간 및 하지근육의 수축 양상을 비교·분석하였다. 연구결과, 패드(foam pad vs. air pad) 유형에 따른 근육별 근력 활성도는 차이가 있었다. 이러한 차이는 큰 동작(식사동작)에서 크게 나타나고, 작은 동작(쓰기동작, 읽기동작)이 작게 나타났다. 이는 Pneumatic air fitting system을 적용한 기립보조기 제품 사용 시, 기존 폼패드에 비해 사용자에게 좀 더 편안함을 제공하는 것으로 나타났다. This study conducted a comparative analysis of the contraction pattern of trunk and lower limbs muscles of handicapped children with brain lesions during the use of foam pad and air pad for fixing a standing table to the body for pediatric patients with brain lesions using a standing table product applied with a pneumatic air fitting system. There was a difference in the measurement of muscle strength activity by muscle in accordance with pad type (foam pad vs. air pad). A large difference was found with big movements (movements of eating), while a small difference was discovered with small movements (writing and reading movements). This was found to furnish a little more comfort to users compared with the existing foam pad during the use of a standing table product applied with a pneumatic air fitting system.
Characteristics of ZnO Films Deposited on Plastic Substrates at Various RF Sputtering Powers

Zinc-oxide (ZnO) films were deposited on polycarbonate (PC) and polyethersulfhone (PES) substrates by RF sputtering at room temperature. We investigated the effect of sputtering power (range: 100–200 W) on the structural, optical, and electrical properties of the deposited ZnO films. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that the ZnO films deposited on both substrate types had a (002) preferred orientation associated with the hexagonal phase. While the ZnO film with the optimal structural properties was obtained at a sputtering power of 175 W, films deposited at powers around 100 W showed a stable optical transmittance of over 85 % over the visible range and linear electrical conductance.
Inlet Guide Vane 을 통하는 기체유동에 관한 실험적 연구

In order to control the discharge flow rate, air compressors with large capacity have an inlet guide vane (IGV) in their inlet ducts. The flow downstream of this IGV is usually subject to strong unsteady vertical motions that can significantly influence the overall performance of the air compressor. Moreover, these complicated flows can result in apparent pressure loss in the volumetric flow entering the air compressors. Surprisingly, very few works have been made to investigate the effects of IGV on the compressor performance. The present study concerns with experimental works to measure the flow downstream of IGV which is installed onto the test section in a subsonic wind tunnel. Opening angle of the IGV is varied at several different flow velocities. Pitot probe is employed to measure the flow velocity and total pressures upstream and downstream of the IGV. The results obtained show that the pressure loss is strongly dependent on the opening angle of IGV.
