Generally, finite element models used in structural analysis have some uncertainties of the geometric dimensions, applied loads and boundary conditions, as well as in material properties due to the manufacturability of aluminum intensive body. Therefore, it is very important to refine or update a finite element model by correlating it with dynamic and static tests. The structural optimization problems of automotive body are considered for mechanical structures with initial stiffness due to preloading and in operation condition or manufacturing. As the mean compliance and deflection under preloading are chosen as the objective function and constraints, their sensitivities must be derived. The optimization problem is iteratively solved by a sequential convex approximation method in the commercial software. The design variables are corrected by the strain energy scale factor in the element levels. This paper presents an updated method based on the sensitivities of structural responses and the residual error vectors between experimental and simulation models.

The geometric configuration in the weight-reduced structure is very required to be started from the conceptual design with low cost, high performance and quality. In this point, a structural-topological shape concerned with conceptual design of structure is important. The method used in this paper combines three optimization techniques, where the shape and physical dimensions of the structure and material distribution are hierachically optimized, with the maximum rigidity of structure and lightweight.

Conventionally, CCD camera and vision sensor using the projected pattern of light is generally used to inspect the weld bead defects. But with this method, a lot of time is needed for image preprocessing, stripe extraction and thinning, etc. In this study, laser vision sensor using the scanning beam of light is used to shorten the time required for image preprocessing. The software for deciding whether the weld bead is in proper shape or not in real time is developed. The criteria are based upon the classification of imperfections in metallic fusion welds(ISO 6520) and limits for imperfections(ISO 5817).
The Geometry Prediction of Back-bead in Arc Welding

This research was done on the basis of assumption that there is a relationship between welding parameters and geometry of the back-bead being a gap in arc welding. Multiple regression analysis was used as method for predicting the geometry of the back-bead. The analysis data and the verification data were used for the formation of multiple regression analysis. The method was used to perform the prediction of the back-bead.
