        Rg3-enriched Korean red ginseng alleviates chloroquine-induced itch and dry skin pruritus in an MrgprA3-dependent manner in mice

        Background: Previous studies have found that Korean red ginseng extract (KRG) has antipruritic effects, which can be attributed to the presence of Rg3, one of the most potent ginsenosides. Therefore, Rg3- enriched KRG extract (Rg3EKRG) is anticipated to have enhanced antipruritic effects. The present study was conducted to examine the effects of Rg3EKRG in acute chloroquine (CQ)-induced and chronic dry skin pruritus. Methods: Calcium imaging technique was used in HE293T cells expressing MrgprA3 and TRPA1 (“Mrg- prA3/TRPA1”) and in primary cultures of mouse dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons. Mouse scratching behavior tests were performed on dry skin models. To verify the altered expression of itch-related genes, real-time RNA sequencing analysis and PCR were performed on DRG sections obtained from dry skin models. Results: Rg3EKRG suppressed CQ-induced intracellular calcium changes to a greater degree than KRG. Rg3EKRG dose-dependently inhibited CQ-induced responses in MrgprA3/TRPA1 cells. Rg3EKRG likely tar- geted MrgprA3 rather than TRPA1 to exert its inhibitory effect. Further, Rg3EKRG strongly inhibited the scratching behavior in mice induced by acute CQ injection. Importantly, DRG neurons obtained from dry skin mice models showed increased mRNA levels of MrgprA3 , and treatment with Rg3EKRG alleviated chronic dry skin conditions and suppressed spontaneous scratching behaviors. Conclusion: The results of the present study imply that Rg3EKRG has a stronger antipruritic effect than KRG, inhibiting both acute CQ-induced and chronic dry skin pruritus in an MrgprA3-dependent manner. Therefore, Rg3EKRG is a potential antipruritic agent that can suppress acute and chronic itching at the peripheral sensory neuronal level.

        자생수생식물의 수질 정화에 따른 생리활성 변화

        This study looked into the water quality improvement effect of reed (Phragmites communis), bur reed (Sparaganium stoloniferum), Alisma canaliculatum, and Hydrocharis dubia in order to develop native hydrophytes suitable to natural-type wetlands for ecological restoration. The result confirms that the concentration of wastewater was lowered in most plants indicating a possibility in wastewater treatment. Among four species, reed (Phragmites communis) and bur reed (Sparaganium stoloniferum) were most effective in removing a majority of contaminants. Considering that reed (Phragmites communis) is a species that has been used most often among hydrophytes, bur reed (Sparaganium stoloniferum), which is a native species in Korea, showed equivalent level of outstanding effect. In the physiological and growing activity and its relations to water quality improvement effect, each species appeared differently. Reed (Phragmites communis) and bur reed (Sparaganium stoloniferum) were best also in physiological and growing activity. In the case of Hydrocharis dubia, growth was strong in polluted water environment but its physiological activity was poor, indicating that it was under stress. The growth and physiological activity of Alisma canaliculatum were also poor, indicating that it too is being stressed. However, measuring organic contents in the plants of each species shows that the organic contents of Alisma canaliculatum was high. Alisma canaliculatum is a species effective in removing pollutants in water, although it is under stress. A unique phenomenon in removing water pollution with plants is that each species removed different pollutants. In the case of Alisma canaliculatum, which was relatively poor in removing pollution, it was remarkable in reducing nitrogen and phosphorus. Hydrocharis dubia was also effective in eliminating floating matter.

        도심형 대학의 캠퍼스 주변 지역사회와 연계된 통합형 프로그래밍에 관한 연구

        This study tries to suggest a program that the function of a campus can be extended to its community and to be decentralized. This sort of program should be applied to the community without any trouble and be an integration type which the campus members can use actively. To make this possible we observe the activity patterns of the campus members and try to understand the motivation of the activity choice. Finally we deduce the campus activity core. Also, based on understanding the community closed to the campus, we find out what campus can contribute as a community member, not an isolated campus. Through this, the study suggests a program that community and campus devise the growth together as a companion and finally be able to extend its main functions to the community.
