In this paper I summarize textile design techniques using a computer-aided multi-harness loom and computer weaving softwares. For this purpose I especially focus on two realms. One of them is of yarn dyeing techniques, such as ikat, block printing, and screen printing. The other focus is on the various structures of weaving textures, such as twill, satin, shadow weave, lampas and stitched double weave. These techniques have largely been used by traditional fabric craftsmen and artists. But in these days the fabric industry, especially 'high quality-small quantity oriented' textile studios also have been using these techniques. The most important factor in textile design is 'weave structure', which decisively influences the color and texture in a given pattern design. So, the use of computer weaving softwares and a compy loom enormously saves time and effort for artists and professional designers. And it enables us to enhance the efficacy and imaginative power for experimental pattern design, especially for jacquard design. In short, though textile design, either for industrial use or artistic expression, should ultimately be based on aesthetic conception, professional textile designers can benefit by using thase textil CAD techniques developed by fabric industries and crafthouses.
