      • 신체활동 친화적인 건강증진 계단 디자인을 위한 사전방향성 연구

        현대인은 자동차 중심적인 생활과 신체활동 부족으로 비만과 이로 인한 각종 만성질병의 위험에 노출되어 있다. 따라서 일상생활 속에서 지속적이며 자발적인 신체활동을 유도할 수 있는 공공 공간의 디자인이 중요하다. 지하철 및 공공 공간에 비치된 계단은 신체활동뿐만 아니라 건강증진과 공중보건 제고에 효과적이다. 본 연구는 건강증진 계단디자인을 위한 사전연구로서 국내외 유사사례를 분석하고 그 결과를 통해, 공공 공간 계단디자인의 요인별 고려요소를 탐색하였다. 이러한 요소는 신체활동 친화적인 건강증진 계단 조성을 위한 디자인 선호도 및 관찰 분석의 근거로 활용되었다. 분석결과 건강계단 디자인에 있어 시각적 자극을 유도하는 색채, 그래픽, 조명과 청각적 요소인 음악 등에 대해 선호도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 생활에서 걷는다는 의미의 중요성을 인지할 수 있는 칼로리 표기나 걷기를 통해 연장되는 수명표기 등의 정보가 계단이용을 유도하는 데 도움을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 계단이용이 기부금 적립 등으로 연결되어 자긍심과 보람을 느낄 수 있는 사회 공헌적 적립 모듈 등과 연계될 때 계단이용을 더 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 신체활동과 건강증진을 유도할 수 있는 건강계단 디자인 요소들을 분석하였으며, 향후 우리나라에서 공공 공간을 대상으로 건강증진을 위한 액티브 디자인 운동의 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. People in contemporary societies have been increasingly exposed to various diseases that are attributed to physical inactivity and an automobile-dependent lifestyle, such as obesity and chronic diseases. Therefore, it is important to design public spaces that encourage sustainable and spontaneous physical activity and promote health in everyday life. Stairs in public spaces, such as within subway system and in public buildings, has great potentials not only to promote physical activity, but also to enhance public health. This study consists of preliminary research on stair design that can promote healthy lifestyles. It analyzes existing cases and explores specific elements of stair design that can promote public health. These specific design elements identified in this study have been included in a preference survey and examined in observational research in order to identify important design factors that can promote physical activity and health. Analysis results show that both visual stimulation such as graphics color, and lighting and music are effective elements that can encourage people to use stairs rather than escalator. In addition, inspirational and motivational signs addressing calorie expenditures and life longevity are positive design elements. Lastly, social activities, such as exercises that accumulate points for donation through stair use have the potential to motivate people to use stairs. By analyzing the stair design elements that promote physical activity and health, this study provides basic information for implementing active design movement in public space in Korea.

      • 신체활동을 유도하는 건강증진계단의 참여촉진 디자인 요소에 관한 실증분석

        현대인들은 신체활동의 부족으로 비만 및 만성질병에 대한 노출 위험성이 커지고 있다. 따라서 일상생활에서 자연스럽게 신체활동과 건강증진을 도모할 수 있는 신체활동 친화적인 물리적 환경조성이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 서울시 시민청 가야금건강계단 사례를 통해 신체활동을 유도하고 참여를 촉진할 수 있는 디자인 요소를 분석하고 실증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 실제 사례 대상지의 계단을 이용하고 있는 시민들을 대상으로 디자인 조형요소 선호도를 분석하여 건강계단 디자인에 적용하였다. 그리고 건강계단 조성사업 전과 후 이용자의 행태변화를 분석하여 신체활동 친화적인 건강계단 디자인 요소의 효과를 검증하였다. 서울시 가야금건강계단 사업의 전과 후를 조사·분석한 결과, 건강계단 조성사업 후 계단 이용률은 평균 7.8%에서 17.9%로 증가하여 적용된 디자인 요소가 이용자의 참여촉진에 분명한 효과를 미친 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 신체활동을 유도하는 건강증진계단의 참여촉진 디자인 요소를 도출하여 이를 실제사례에 적용하여 그 효과를 평가하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 그리고 공적공간을 대상으로 신체활동과 건강증진을 유도할 수 있는 공공디자인 가이드라인 수립을 위한 시사점을 도출하였다. Physical inactivity increases the health risks of obesity and certain chronic disease. Therefore, physical activity in public places is an important aspect of public health promotion. This study aims to empirically examine the design elements of stairs that attract user’s participation as a mean to promote physical activity. We examine the case of ‘Gayageumm Health-Promoting Stair’ in Seoul’s city hall and conduct a user-preference survey for outdoor public stair design elements that include questions regarding the theme, color, sound, lighting and signs. The preferred design elements were applied to the ‘Gayageumm Health-Promoting Stair’ project. Our analysis of the ‘before’ and ‘after’ experiment shows that a user’s choice of taking the stairs over taking the escalator increased from 7.8% to 17.9%. This finding indicates that stair design elements can produce a significant impact on users’ behavior. This study empirically shows and emphasizes that the design of public places may have a positive impact on promoting increased physical activity and greater public health. Finally, this study suggests implications for the design guidelines to promote physical activity in public spaces.

        고속철도 역세권 복합용도개발을 위한 이용자의 시설 선호도 분석

        During the past several years, the high-speed rail (HSR) system in Korea has changed peoples long-distance travel behavior and transformed land use patterns in areas with high-speed rail stations. However, little research has been done to understand HSR users characteristics and their preferences for potential facilities in the HSR station areas. This study aims to examine HSR users facility preferences and suggest appropriate direction for mixed land use development in the HSR station areas. We conducted an on-board questionnaire survey (2,051 responses) of HSR users, including their personal characteristics and preferences for proposed facilities in the HSR station areas. Data on demographic and socioeconomic status, travel purposes and behavior, and accessibility issues to stations were also collected. The results of this study indicated that HSR users have strong common preferences for retail, dining, cultural, and leisure facilities regardless of their travel purposes. In addition, respondents who preferred office showed higher preferences for residential, convention, research, and public service facilities. Considering the high proportion of business travelers using the HSR system, this finding indicates the importance of mixed land use including office and its supporting facilities as well as commonly preferred facilities in the HSR station areas.

        수도권 1기 신도시 통근통행특성과 공간구조의 변화(1996~2010)

        This study examined the commuting characteristics and urban spatial structure focusing on self-containment and centrality of the first generation new towns in Korea using the longitudinal household travel survey data of 1996, 2002, 2006, and 2010. We developed nine measures to examine the multi-dimensional concept of self-containment and the interdependency between new towns and surrounding cities. The analysis results show that two new towns such as Ilsan and Jungdong have increased the level of self-containment over time. In contrast, the level of self-containment of Bundang new town is relatively low among five new towns. On the other hand, Bundang new town’s centrality of commuting network is relatively higher than other new towns, indicating that Bundang new town functions as the central place of employment beyond its administrative boundary. In addition, the relationship between the new town and original town in the same administrative boundary indicates that original town’s dependency to newtown has increased over time except Jungdong. Lastly, the dependency of five new towns to the city of Seoul has been decreased over time, indicating the spatial expansion of commuting networks into surrounding local cities from the new towns.

        보행자 연령대별 보행만족도에 영향을 미치는 가로환경의 특성분석

        This study examines the impact of street environment on pedestrian walking satisfaction for different age groups using the 2012 Pedestrian Satisfaction Survey Data(PSSD) in Seoul, Korea. This study confirms that multilevel ordered logistic model was an appropriate method to control for both personal-level and location-level differences on walking satisfaction which has an ordered unit. The results indicate that street level physical environments have consistent or different impacts on pedestrian satisfaction by age groups. In particular, pedestrian specialization street has statistically significant and positive association with pedestrian satisfaction regardless of different age groups. In addition, it shows stronger impact on walking satisfaction for the aged population. We also found that some physical environmental variables including sidewalk width were important variables for walking satisfaction. However, street-level land use mix variable did not show any statistical significance to the level of pedestrian satisfaction. This study concludes that pedestrian street design strategies should consider specific determinants of pedestrian satisfaction for different age groups.

        근린환경특성이 보행만족도에 미치는 영향 분석

        This study examines the association between neighborhood environment and walking satisfaction using the Seoul Survey 2013. We use the multi-level models that examine the impacts of neighborhood environment on walking satisfaction, controlling for household and neighborhood effects. Analysis results indicate that demographic and socioeconomic characteristics are very important variables for walking satisfaction. Regarding neighborhood environments, subjectively measured neighborhood environment variables such as crime risk, noise, air pollution, parking problem and other neighborhood environment variables are statistically significant factors of neighborhood walking satisfaction. In particular, walking safety and amenity variables are very important for pedestrians’ walking satisfaction. Some neighborhood physical environment variables such as railway or highway pass are also significant. Such border vacuum variables show negative associations with walking satisfaction. Lastly, land use and road network variables do not show any statistical significance to the level of pedestrian’s walking satisfaction. We summarize key findings and discuss policy implications to improve neighborhood walking satisfaction in Seoul, Korea.

        서울시 상업 젠트리피케이션 발생 주거지역의 입지적 요인과 변화특성 분석

        This study examines the locational characteristics and change of business type in the residental areas that have commercial gentrification issues in Seoul, Korea, using the logistic regression model. The analysis results indicate that the gentrification occurrence areas are strongly associated with low-density and old residential areas. In addition, those areas are more likely to have great accessibilities to highway ramp, subway station, colleges, and other facilities that attract people. Regarding the characteristics of the road, gentrification occurrence areas are associated with longer road length, lower rate of road areas, higher local integration of road network, and higher rate of three-way intersections. This finding indicates that low-density and old residential areas with organic road networks have strong links with commercial gentrification. This study also finds that the business type has been substantially changed from 2006 to 2014 in the commercially gentrified residential areas. While the coffee shops and drinking places have been increased, but neighborhood-living facilities have been decreased. This study also shows that the business life-cycles of drinking places or Korean restaurant are getting short. Finally, this study discusses the commercial gentrification issues and policy implications in the residential districts in Seoul, Korea. 본 연구는 서울시 상업 젠트리피케이션 발생 주거지역의 입지적 요인과 변화 특성을 로짓모형을 활용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과로 서울시 상업 젠트리피케이션 발생 주거지역은 단독주택 연면적 비율이 높고 근린생활시설이 많은 주거지역에서 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 더하여, 고속도로 및 지하철 입구와 대학교 그리고 많은 사람을 끌어들일 수 있는 인구 집중시설과 거리가 가까운 곳에서 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 주거지역 내 상업 젠트리피케어션이 발생한 집계구의 도로 특성은 도로 길이가 길고, 도로 면적이 작으며, 도로망 네트워크의 부분 통합도 값이 크고, 3지 교차로가 많은 집계구에서 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 서울시 상업 젠트리피케이션 발생 주거지역이 골목길과 같은 유기적 도로망과 단독주택 위주의 낮은 주거밀도 그리고 인구유발시설과의 접근성이 좋은 곳에서 발생하는 것을 의미한다. 이어서 서울시 상업 젠트리피케이션 발생 주거지역의 변화특성을 살펴보면, 2006년과 비교하여 2014년에 커피숍과 주점이 증가하고 근린생활시설의 수는 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 주점과 한식 음식점의 폐업기간은 2006년과 비교하여 2014년에 짧아지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 서울시 상업 젠트리피케이션 발생 주거지역에 대한 입지특성과 토지이용변화를 토대로 주거지역의 상업 젠트리피케이션에 대한 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

        근린의 도로 네트워크 구조와 보행자 교통사고의 연관성 분석

        The complexity, connectivity, and continuity of road network structure affect the speed of vehicle and drivers‘ vision and driving behavior, which strongly determines pedestrian safety. Thus more objective and in-depth research is required to identify the association between road network and pedestrian safety. In this context, this study examines the relationship between neighborhood environment including road network structure and pedestrian safety using the TAAS (2012-2014) data. We utilize negative binominal regression model. Unlike previous studies, this study includes exposure variables such as pedestrian volume, population, and road congestion level and objective measures of road network structure such as average geodesic distance, network betweenness centrality, average clustering coefficient. Key finding and implications can be organized as follows. First, pedestrian traffic accidents on community living zone road is strongly associated to road network structure of neighborhood-level. Second, we confirm that pedestrian volume and traffic condition are important variables for pedestrian accidents. Third, pedestrian traffic accidents are strongly associated with commercial land use and public transportation systems including median exclusive bus station. This study suggests policy implications for neighborhood road network design in urban planning and design projects and for pedestrian safety.
