초등학생의 뇌활용 선호유형과 과학 학습자료의 외적 표상 양식 사이의 관계

이민경 ( Min Kyung Yi ),신동훈 ( Dong Hoon Shin ) 韓國生物敎育學會 2015 생물교육 Vol.43 No.1

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between elementary school students’brain preference and the form of external representation of science learning materials. The participants of this study were 105 sixth graders at ○○ Elementary School in Seoul. The researchers surveyed the participants’ brain preference, and developed learning materials mainly in the verbal (text) and visual (image) forms of representation using four themes of science learning that excluded prior knowledge as much as possible. Errors resulting from redundancy were excluded through inputting learning materials of one representation form for the same topic. According to the results of this study, students of left-brain and both brain types did not have a preferred mode of representation. In right-brain students, however, their understanding was higher for materials of visual representation than for those of verbal representation. These findings mean that right brain students’ understanding of learning contents and their achievement may vary depending on the mode of representation to be used in presenting learning materials. Accordingly, when learning materials are developed, the developers need to consider the learners’ brain preference particularly for right-brain students.
