ICR 마우스를 이용한 인삼패독산(人蔘敗毒散)의 급성독성 연구

Objective : This study was carried out to investigate the acute toxicity and safety of Insampaedok-san extract in ICR Mice. Methods : SPF ICR male and female mice were administered orally with Insampaedok-san extract of 0 (control group), 1250, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg. After single administration, we daily examined number of deaths, clinical signs, gross findings and changes of body weight for 14 days. Hematological parameters and isolated organ weights were determined after 14 days of administration. Results : No dead animal and no significant changes of body weights were found during experimental period. In addition, no differences were found between control and all of treated groups in clinical signs, organ weights and hematology, and other findings. Conclusions : Insampaedok-san extract did not show any toxic effects and oral LD50 values of the extracts was over 5000 mg/kg in ICR mice.

Objective : The objective of this study was to evaluate the single dose oral toxicity of Hwangryundaedok-tang extract in ICR mice. Methods : 0(control group), 1250, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg of Hwangryundaedok-tang extracts were orally administered to 20 male and 20 female ICR mice. After single oral administration of Hwangryundaedok-tang extract to ICR mice, we observed number of the death, clinical signs, changes of body weights for 14 days. After 14 day of Hwangryundaedok-tang extract administration, all mice were sacrificed and major organs were observed. Results : Compared with the control group, we could not find any toxic signs in the mortalities, clinical signs, body weight changes, necropsy findings and hematological values in all treated groups(1250, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg). Conclusions : $LD_{50}$ value of Hwangryundaedok-tang extracts may be over 5000 mg/kg and it may have no side toxic effect to ICR mice.

Calcium is an essential mineral in the maintenance of physiological functions of both plants and animals. Without an appropriate level of calcium, our body becomes more susceptible to many diseases with decreased resistance to unfavourable conditions. Current food additives, used to conserve food longer by suppressing the productions of gases and the growth of the bacteria, are either chemical conservatives or natural products. The chemical conservatives, however, has a potential to produce adverse effects in our body, whereas the natural products, such as grape fruit extract or Yuka extract, are expensive and alters the tastes of food. Due to these limits of currents food additives, the market has been looked for the safe, domestic and natural food additives, having good conservative function without side effects and alternation in food tastes. Among many natural food additives, the best candidate is calcium ion, an essential mineral which is necessary in biological activity in most organisms. With great interests of the market, manufacturing technology has rapidly developed to increase the absorption rate and the efficiency of utilization of high ionic calcium in food additives, and a positive prediction can be made on its marketability. This review demonstrates domestic and international trends in techniques and marketing dealing with high ionic calcium, and also suggests the prospects and the attractiveness of calcium in a food market.
