Idle stability is closely related to engine combustion variability which is represented by the coefficient of variation in idle indicated mean effective pressure(IMEP). IMEP is derived from measured cylinder pressure. This paper describes the correlation between crank angular velocity and COV_IMEP. Based on the correlation, engine roughness value has been used in idle stability to minimize cylinder to cylinder combustion variability by the optimized individual spark control.
