To investigate the effect of splenectomy on the morphological changes of the rat liver, histological (H & E, PAS, and reticulin stains) and enzyme histochemical(alkaline phosphatase, nonspecific esterase, and succinic dehydrogenase strains) studies were performed at 3 days, 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks after splenectomy. The results were as follows. 1. The most remarkable finding of the liver after spienectomy was increased hematooietic cells in the hepatic tissue. Initially, the hematopoietic cells appeared in blood vessels, sinusoid and portal area, but it becomes localized to portal area after 3 weeks. 2. Kupffer cells were proliferated from the beginning to 3 weeks after splenectomy, and then return to control level at 4th week. 3. Cells with PAS- positive granles were marked decreased in numbers at 2nd and 3rd week groups, but it returned to normal at 4th week. 4. Activities of nonspecific esterase and succinic dehydrogenase were increased in all experimental groups, but normalized at 4th week, but the activity of alkaline phosphatase was not altered throughout the experimental period. According to these results, in the splenectomized rat, the liver gradually compensates the splenic function, especially the hematopoietic function and reticuloendothelial function, which stabilize at 4th week. (Key words: histochemical, splenectomy, liver)
Off-Line Parameter Identification of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Using a Goertzel Algorithm
윤재승,이경구,이준석,이교범 대한전기학회 2015 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.10 No.6
Generally, internal parameters of the motors and generators can be divided to the resistance and inductance components. They can become a cause of the changing internal parameters because they have sensitive characteristics due to external conditions. The changed parameters can generate the outputs which include error values from the speed and current controllers. Also, it can bring the temperature increase and mechanical damage to the system. Therefore, internal parameters of the motors and generators need to obtain their values according to the external conditions because it can prevent the mechanical damage caused by the changed parameters. In this paper, the off-line parameter identification method is verified using the Goertzel algorithm. The motor used in the simulation and experiments is an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), and the proposed algorithm is verified by the simulation and experimental results.
FDTD 방법을 이용한 Ku 대역 송수신 겸용 마이크로스트립 단일 소자 해석 및 8X4 배열 안테나

In this paper, TX/RX dual operation microstrip single antenna for satellite communication is designed, analyzed, fabricated and measured. TX/RX frequency ranges are 14.0∼l4.5 GHz, 11.7∼12.75 GHz in respectively and vertical and horizontal polarizations are used for TX and RX. This antenna uses microstrip direct feeding for RX and aperture coupled strip-line feeding for TX and accommodates stacked elements for a high directivity and wide impedance bandwidth. In an analysis of single element, FDTD and MOM was compared and FDTD analysis was more accurate because of the consideration of finite structure and imperfect two ground planes. The proposed structure facilitates generally to an extension of two dimensional array and lower an unwanted radiation by strip-line feed in TX. TX/RX 8${\times}$4 array has a return loss below -10 dB, -14 dB in TX, RX respectively and a gain ranging from 19.1∼20.7 dB in TX, 21.2∼21.8 dB in RX which has a radiation efficiency of 43∼5l %, 52∼57 %.

Background We investigated the relationship between endothelial dysfunction and diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods We used a cross-sectional design to examine 167 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. All patients underwent biochemical and ophthalmological examination. We assessed endothelial dysfunction by a flow-mediated vasodilation method of the brachial artery. Changes in vasodilation (flow-mediated vasodilatation, %FMD) were expressed as percent change over baseline values. Results The mean±standard deviation of patient age was 54.1±8.6 years. The %FMD was significantly lower in patients with DR than without DR. The prevalence of retinopathy decreased across increasing tertiles of %FMD. After adjusting for patients' age, sex, diabetes duration, use of insulin, use of antihypertensive, antiplatelet, and lipid lowering medications, systolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, 2-hour plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and urinary albumin excretion, participants with a reduced %FMD were more likely to have DR (odds ratio, 11.819; 95% confidence interval, 2.201 to 63.461; P=0.004, comparing the lowest and highest tertiles of %FMD). Conclusion Endothelial dysfunction was associated with DR, which was most apparent when the endothelial dysfunction was severe. Our study provides insights into the possible mechanism of the influence of endothelial dysfunction on the development of DR.

Microstrip $8{ imes}2$ sub-array antennas for a extension to active phased array antennas are designed, fabricated and measured for TX/RX dual operation in satellite communication and a reception of satellite broadcasting. For the frequency range from 11.7 to 12.75 GHz for RX and from 14 to 14.5 GHz for TX, two orthogonal linear polarizations of ${pm}45^{\circ}$ are used to transmit and receive simultaneously with one radiator. They adopt dual resonance between two patches for wideband characteristics in RX band and show isolation characteristics over 20 dB. An electrical beam tilt of $30^{\circ}$ is achieved and a tapered power distribution, narrow element spacing are used for the purpose of low side-lobe characteristics.

Background: We investigated clinical course and risk factors for diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: A total of 759 patients with T2DM without DR were included from January 2001 to December 2004. Retinopathy evaluation was performed at least annually by ophthalmologists. The severity of the DR was classified into five categories according to the International Clinical Diabetic Retinopathy Severity Scales. Results: Of the 759 patients, 523 patients (68.9%) completed the follow-up evaluation. During the follow-up period, 235 patients (44.9%) developed DR, and 32 patients (13.6%) progressed to severe nonproliferative DR (NPDR) or proliferative DR (PDR). The mean duration of diabetes at the first diagnosis of mild NPDR, moderate NPDR, and severe NPDR or PDR were 14.8, 16.7, and 17.3 years, respectively. After adjusting multiple confounding factors, the significant risk factors for the incidence of DR risk in patients with T2DM were old age, longer duration of diabetes, higher mean glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and albuminuria. Even in the patients who had been diagnosed with diabetes for longer than 10 years at baseline, a decrease in HbA1c led to a significant reduction in the risk of developing DR (hazard ratio, 0.73 per 1% HbA1c decrement; 95% confidence interval, 0.58 to 0.91; P=0.005). Conclusion: This prospective cohort study demonstrates that glycemic control, diabetes duration, age, and albuminuria are important risk factors for the development of DR. More aggressive retinal screening for T2DM patients diagnosed with DR should be required in order to not miss rapid progression of DR.
