Characteristics of Escherichia coli from bulk tank milk of dairy company

Escherichia coli (E. coli) can easily contaminate the bovine mammary gland; hence, monitoring of bulk tank milk (BTM) samples helps detect mastitis. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of E. coli from BTM of a dairy company. A total of 58 BTM batches were collected from 29 dairy farms of a dairy company, and 40 E. coli were tested in this study. E. coli showed the highest resistance to cephalothin (52.4%), followed by colistin (28.6%), ampicillin (19.0%) and tetracycline (19.0%). However, E. coli showed low resistance from 0% to 9.5% against other 14 antimicrobials. In the distribution of antimicrobial resistant gene, β-lactamases genes blaOXA and tetracyclines-resistant gene tetB were detected in 15 (37.5%) and 2 (5.0) isolates, respectively, and blaTEM, aac (6 )-Ib, aac (3)-II, tetA, sul1 and sul2 genes were only detected once in each (2.5%) isolate. The O127 (22.5%) serogroup was the most predominant, but all E. coli isolates were divided into 20 serogroups. The occurrence of antimicrobial-resistant bacterial infection can be problematic as it not only deteriorates the milk quality but also limits the therapeutic choices of antimicrobials in humans. Therefore, continuous monitoring is recommended to track antimicrobial-resistant E. coli in BTM and raw milk.

This study was carried out to investigate the changes of physical and chemical properties according to the preserving periods and temperature in heat-treated market milks (130°C, 2 sec). The market milks were divided into 3 experimental groups, that is 4°C, 15°C and 30°C according to the preserving temperature during 7 days. There were analysed fat, protein, lactose, total solids, solids-not-fat, specific gravity and acid value of market milks in each experimental group. These observations indicated that heat-treated market milks (130°C, 2 sec) may be acceptable physically and chemically after 7 days at 4°C. The results obtained were sunm-iarized as follows 1. Total microorganisms in market milks were found 12X 101 cells at 1st day. Coliform and pathogenic bacteria were not detected. 2. lVlilk fats tended to decrease 3.69% to 3.48% according to the time lapsed in all experimental groups without concerning to the storage temperature. 3. Milk proteins were slowly decreased 3.18% to 3.13% according to the time lapsed without concerning to the storage temperature. 4. Milk lactose was slightly increased 4.41% to 4.55% in all experimental groups. 5. Specific gravity in market milks was 1.0316 to 1.0299, and showed no changes according to the preserving periods and temperature. 6. Total solids and solids-not-fat in market milks were slightly decreased 12.30 to 12.05 and 8.5E to 8.40. 7. Acid values were dramatically increased 0.1289 to 0.3116 at 30`C storage group, while tended to be stable at 4 `C storage group for 7 days.

Streptococcus(S.) suis is a pathogen, causing meningitis, septicemia and sudden death in weaning piglets as well as fattening pigs. Using multiplex PCR method based S. suis capsular genes, 61 S. suis isolates was classified as serotypes 2, 7, 9 and untypable. Genotyping of S. suis isolates was analysed by PFGE pattern with treated Sma I restricted enzyme. Of the 61 S. suis, 25 (40.9%) were serotype 2, 6 (9.8%) were serotype 7, 5 (8.2%) were serotype 9, and 25 (40.9%) were untypable, respectively. Twenty four PFGE patterns were detected in this study and also PFGE patterns were classified according to serotype; serotype 2 was classified as 6 genotypes, serotype 7 was 5 genotypes, serotype 9 was 3 genotypes, and untypable was 11 genotypes, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to survey seroprevalence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and porcine circovirus-2 (PCV-2) in Gyeongbuk province by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). A total of 966 samples collected from 21 pig farms were tested. The sero-positive rate of PRRS and PCV-2 were 77.6% (750/966) and 76.4% (738/966), respectively.

Three serotypes (O, A and Asia1) of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine were injected into domestic cloven-hoofed animals in korea after the nationwide spread at the end of 2010. The purpose of this study was survey of FMD virus stuructural protein (SP) antibody titer in Yeongcheon by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Total 1,324 samples collected from 89 farms were tested. The overall seroprevalence of FMD virus SP antibodies was 58.8% (778/1,324) The seroprevalence of FMD virus SP antibody varied with species. Results in cattle (over 12 month old) and pig (90 to 130 day old) were 58.8% and 44.9% respectively.

The purpose of this study was survey of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus antibody in Gyeongbuk province by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Total 690 samples collected from 15 pig farms were tested. The overall seroprevalence of PRRS virus antibodies was 63.2% (436/690) and 13 farms of 15 farms had at least one pig with PRRS virus antibodies. The seroprevalence of PRRS virus antibody varied with age. Results in 1 to 30 day old, 31 to 60 day old, 61 to 90 day old, 90 to 120 day old and over 120 day old pig were 58.3%, 36.0%, 68.0%, 84.0%, 80.0% and sow were 61.9% respectively.

This study was conducted to investigate the species-specific gene detection, capsular serogroup and antimicrobial resistance pattern of Pasteurella multocida isolated from pneumonic lung lesion of swine in Gyeongbuk province. P. multocida isolates were typed for capsular serogroups by polymerase chain reaction. Of the 32 strains, 28 (87.5%) were typed serotype A, 3 (9.3%) were typed serotype D, and 1 strain was unknown (3.1%), respectively. In antimicrobial agents resistance test, almost of strains were susceptible to amoxicillin (100%), enrofloxacin (96.9%), ampicillin (93.8%), florfenicol (90.6%), chloramphenicol (90.6%)and were resistant to streptomycin (71.9%), spectinomycin (56.3%). All strains were resistant to clindamycin, erythromycin and lincomycin.
