Generally, progressive type GMP process is more efficient than batch type because there are advantages that problems of each stage(heating, press, cooling etc.) are easily grasped and a time of production is shortened. But if single cavity is used in progressive type GMP process, there is disadvantage that productivity is decreased. So, in order to improve productivity of progressive type GMP process, it is essential to secure multi cavity mold technic. In this study, as a fundamental study to develop multi cavity used in glass lens molding, we conducted a compression test for PBK40.

A basic research on isostatic technology for advancing the material property of direct metal tool ing core was performed in this study. The advantages of direct metal tool ing core are well known for the reduction of cycle time and the acquirement of high quality product in injection mold process. However there are some problems in density of structure, such as micro scale void. Therefore this research focused on the feasibility study for the application of isostatic process on mold making aspect. Direct tooled tensile specimen and inject ion mold core were prepared to invest i gat e the effect of isostatic process on dimensional change, hardness variation and tooling characteristics. It was shown that dimensional variation ratio was smaller than hardness variation ratio and there was no significant difference in machining result.

In this study, the efficiency of ceramic micro cutting tool with abrasive-type was evaluated by basic micro cutting experiments. Generally, micro drill and endmill made of tungsten-carbide which have sharply cutting edge are worn out rapidly. Therefore, ceramic micro tool which has minute bump feature was proposed in this study. In experiments, micro hole and slot shape were fabricated by ceramic micro tool. Finally the quality of fabricated hole and slot were evaluated and tool wear trend was observed by microscope.

In this study, a research on the micro cutting process with the mold core material at low temperature environment was performed. In macro cutting fields, the cryogenic cutting process, mainly turning process, has been applied to cut the refractory metal but, the serious problems may be generated in micro cutting fields by the cryogenic condition. However, if the proper low temperature is applied to micro cutting area, the cooling effect of cutting heat is expected. Such effect can make the reduction of tool wear and burr formation, For verifying this process, the micro cutting experiment at low temperature was performed and SEM images were analyzed.
