Buildings with multi-complex spaces designed for architectural values and functional requirements give rise to technical challenges in terms of energy efficiency and thermal comfort. Since spaces in such buildings are connected with openings with geometrical complexity, it is hard to define zoning plan and to control heating/cooling loads effectively. This paper presents a case study on the evaluation of operation strategy for a building with multi-complex spaces using computer simulation. The modelling methodology and the results of the simulations are also described.

Among various methods to build the construction safety, the consecutive improvement by the measuring and evaluating safety management capabilities for the construction participants such as an owner, a contractor, and a supervisor (construction project manager) can be the effective one. Thus, an effective evaluation and grading criteria to provide performance index for the implementation of safety management activities should be necessary. In this regards, the purpose of this study is to verify the adequacy by offering a competency evaluation system for the supervisor's safety capability and by applying the system to some construction sites. The proposed evaluation system was developed on the basis of the principles of safety management & accident prevention, basic elements of safety and health management system, and safety evaluation cases at home and abroad. The trial evaluation showed that the safety management of the construction site is mainly carried out by the contractor and the supervisor's awareness for the safety management is low on the whole. Especially, it is urgent to improve the support system from the supervisor headquarter and to place the dedicated safety management person in the field.

As double facade systems are adopted for energy saving in curtain wall buildings, their performance are often evaluated with detailed computer simulation. the results derived from inappropriate models are likely to lead to wrong decision. when applying simulation models, preliminary tests should be made to define appropriate model. In this study, a the energy performance of a proposed double window system was tested with ESP-r simulation. To implement this test, different scaled air-flow network models were produced, and their results were compared. It was identified that the energy performance of the proposed double window systems varies depending on the modelling strategies. The error rate between different scaled models is about 15%. It is important to consider appropriate modelling strategy compromising efficiency with accuracy.
