Journalists often use social media data to understand public opinion. However, it is likely that social media data reflect unrepresentative and polarized opinions. In this sense, it is important to understand who express their opinions on social media and in which context they do. SNS users can express their opinions by engagement (e.g., ‘liking’, recommending, commenting, and sharing), assuming the presence of an audience. Using the data from the 2016 Korean Media Panel Survey (N = 630), this study examines whether and how the user engagement was associated with ideological extremity and SNS types. For that, we categorized SNS platforms into two types (closed and open) and tested how user preference for each type was related to engagement on SNSs. The results showed that ideological extremity could positively predict user engagement. We also found a positive correlation between preference for open SNSs and engagement, while the relationship between preference for closed SNSs and engagement was not statistically significant. In addition, it was found that ideological extremity and SNS type interactively influenced user engagement. Specifically, the positive correlation between preference for closed [open] SNSs and engagement was strengthened when the ideological extremity was of a high [low] than low [high] condition. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Medication non-adherence could be of two types: intentional and unintentional non-adherence. This study wasaimed at determining the ratio of intentional to unintentional non-adherence among patients with chronic diseases andrelated factors. To this end, household members were targeted according to the 2017 annual data of the Korean MedicalPanel Study (version 1.6), and the ratio of intentional to unintentional non-adherence in patients with hypertension andarthropathy was determined. The independent variables studied were demographic characteristics, drug satisfaction, sideeffects, psychosocial factors, diagnosis time, and financial parameters. The percentage of individuals with unintentionalnon-adherence was quite high among those with hypertension. On the other hand, the percentage of individuals withintentional non-adherence was quite high among those with arthropathy. Among individuals with hypertension, there wasa difference between adherence and non-adherence rates according to age, diagnosis time, drug satisfaction, averagemonthly drug cost, drug cost burden and the number of chronic diseases. There was a difference between intentional andunintentional non-adherence rates according to average monthly drug cost and diagnosis time. In patients with arthropathy, there were differences in adherence rates according to age, household income, side effects, satisfaction, stress, and anxiety. There was a difference between intentional and unintentional non-adherence rates according to the number of chronicdiseases. We expect that this study will be helpful in the development of intervention methods for managing non-adherence.
