        3,3`, 4,4`, 5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB 126)가 성장기 랫드 정소에 미치는 형태학적 변화

        This study was conducted to examine the effect of 3,3`, 4,4`, 5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB 126) on morphological changes in the developing rat testis. PCB 126 (0.2㎎/㎏/week) in corn oil was weekly i.p. injected into rats from 1 to 11 weeks old. The total body weights and testicular weights were measured at 3, 6, 9 and 12 weeks, respectively. The morphological changes in the rat testes were then analyzed by light microscopy (LM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results demonstrated that PCB 126 treatment caused significant change in the ratio of testicular weight/body weight at 9 week. The treatment of PCB increased the number of pregonium cells at 3 week and it decreased spermatogenesis of the seminiferous tubules at 6 week. The results of this study suggest that PCB 126 can damage the male reproductive organ of the growing rat and that it might be associated with retardation of development of the testis.

        발가락과다증(polydactyly)인 1개의 여분의 뒷다리가 왼쪽 둔부위에 부착된 닭의 다리과다증(polymelia) 1례

        The abnormal female fowl (Arbor Acres broiler) of 40-day-old, which was polymelia with polydactyly was observed macroscopically and radiographically. An extra pelvic limb was attached at the left pelvic region. The extra pelvic limb consisted of an underdeveloped and malformed Os coxae like bone, femur like bone, tibia and fibula like bones, tarsal and metatarsal like bones, and five digits. The tarsal bones of two normal pelvic limbs and one extra pelvic limb were not fused with tibia and metatarsal bones respectively. The metatarsus of extra pelvic limb consisted of a single bone derived from several components. In a case of normal, first metatarsal bone remains independent. However in this case. all of metatarsal bones were fused. The extra pelvic limb was polydactyly. The digits consisted of the first and extra digit of three. the second and third of four. and the fourth of five phalanges. In each toe the last phalanx was pointed and formed the claw. The first and the second digits were polyphalangia [hyperphalangia]. The extra digit was microdactylia and brachydactyly.

        제주말의 요추골유합 1례

        The fused lumbar vertebrae (L) of the female Cheju native horse were observed macroscopically. The 5th L and 6th L were partially fused. They were composed of four parts between the spinous process of the 5th L and 6th L, left and right transverse process of the 5th L and 6th L, caudal articular process of the 5th L and cranial articular process of the 6th L, and fossa of vertebra of the 5th L and head of vertebra of the 6th L. The dorsal lumbar foramen and ventral lumbar foramen were formed each at left and right of medial parts in the fused transverse processes of the 5th and 6th lumbar vertebrae.

        아프리카코끼리(Loxodonta africana)의 흉추골유합과 요추골, 천골 및 장골이 유합된 1례

        The vertebrae of female African elephant (Loxodonta africana) of twenty-eight years old were observed macroscopically. The result was summarized as follows; the vertebral formula of African elephant was $C_7$ $T_{21}$ $L_3$ $S_4$ $Cd_{21}$. The total length of the vertebral column removed intervertebreal disks was 353 cm. The length of each segment of vertebral column was 44 cm in cervical, 142 cm in thoracic, 21 cm in lumbar, 27 cm in sacral and 119 cm in caudal vertebrae. The 17th and 18th thoracic vertebrae (T) were partially fused each other in four parts: the transverse processes of 17th and 18th T, caudal articular process of 17th T and cranial articular process of 18th T, left mammilary process of 18th T and left transverse process of 17th T, and vertebral arch of 17th and 18th T, respectively. Others partial fusions also observed among the third luwbar, sacrum and ilium. These were in between transverse process of third lumbar vertebra and cranial parts of wing of sacrum, lateral part of sacrum and tuber sacrale, respectively. The sternum was consisted of three pieces; one is a part of anterior prestemum, two is the part from caudal demifacet at second facet to cranial demifacet at third facet in middle mesosternum, which is divided vertically into an half at second and third facets, respectively, and the last is the part between caudal demifacet of third facet in middle mesosternum and the posterior xiphisternum. There are 21 pairs of ribs, six sternal, ten asternal ribs and the last five being floating ribs.

        한국재래산양 태아 및 신생아의 결장상피 발달에 관한 투과전자현미경적 연구

        The morphological development of colonic epithelia in fetuses between 60-. 90-, and 120-days gestation and neonates of Korean native goat were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. In the 60-day-old fetuses, the colonic epithelial cells contained nuclei, nucleoli, mitochondria, free ribosomes, and shoo granular and agranular endoplasmic reticula. The zonula occludens, zonula adherens, desmosomes, short microvilli, and masses of glycogen granules were also obsrved. The goblet cells contained a few secretory granules. In the 90-day-old fetuses, the cell organelles of the colonic epithelial cells were better developed than those in the 60 day old fetuses. Increased number of endoplasmic reticula, digitiform intercellular junctions, mitochondria, and Golgi complexes was observed. The goblet cells contained a lot of secretory granules. In the 120-day-old fetuses, the colonic epithelial cells contained long microvilli and well developed cell organelles. The nuclear cleft and large intercellular space were also appeared. Nunerous fibroblasts were seen in the basement membrane. The number of goblet cells was further observed. In the 120 day old fetuses, all colonic epithelial cells shape simple columnar cells. In newborns, the colonic epithelial cells were covered with extensive microvilli. There were many goblet cells with a lot of secretory granules protruding into the intestinal lumen, and some goblet cells secreted their secretory granules into the lumen. In the 60-and 90-day-old fetuses, the colonic epithelial cells appeared to be either simple columnar or stratified columnar depending on areas.

        한우(Bos taurus coreanae)의 정맥관흔적(rudimentum of ductus venous)의 증례

        The observations of the anatomical closure of the ductus venosus (DV) and vestige of DV were studied in 22 cattle, ranging from 210-day-old fetus to 3-years old Korean native cattle. Vinylite solution was injected into the hepatic, portal, umbilical veins and caudal vena cavae of 22 specimens for vinylite corrosion casts. The DV originated at the confluence of the umbilical and portal veins and emptied into the left hepatic vein or posterior vena cava. The DVs were persisted in a 210-day-old fetus, a 240-day-old fetus, and a 270-day-old fetus. Two newborns, two 2-year-old and two 3-year-old cattle had no rudimentum of DV (6 cases, 31.58%). However, vestiges of DV in varying sizes were observed in a 14-day-old, a 3O-day-old, two 180-day-old and nine adult cattle (13 cases, 68.42%). The lengths of vestiges of DV were about 4.97~99.66 mm. Therefore, the present study demonstrates that DV in cattle can be degenerated during the late period of a pregnancy.

        임신우에서 발생된 난포의 기능에 대한 면역조직화학적 관찰

        Incidence of estrum or abortions in pregnant cows may be affected by large follicles developed together with corpus luteum in pair ovaries of pregnant cows. But the follicles of pregnant phase were not assessed about histological findings. Determination of the healthy and atretic follicles by presence of proliferative cells or apoptotic cells and histological compositions of follicles would be used as important data on measurements of ovarian functions. This study was focussed mainly to investigate macroscopical, histological and immunohistochemical findings of ovarian follicles of pregnant Korean native cows and dairy cows (Holstein). In immunohistochemical methods, assessments of proliferative cells using PCNA antibody and apoptotic cells using TUNEL methods were performed. The follicles were observed on all 24 pregnant cows (17 Korean native cows and 7 Holstein cows). Follicles of greater than 10 mm in daimeter were developed in 37.5% (9/24 heads) of these pregnant cows. largest follicles from in these cows were $16.0{\times}15.0mm$ in diameter in a Korean native cow(l20 days of gestation), $13.4{\times}10.1mm$ in a Korean native cow(50 days of gestation), $12.9{\times}11.5mm$ in a Holstein cow (120 days of gestation). 40.5% among all follicles having diameter of greater than 1.0 mm in pregnant cows were assessed as atretic follicles and in addition, healthy follicles also showed less in number and smaller in size and thinner in wall layer compared with those of cyclic phase ovaries. In immunohistochemical findings, also proliferative positive cells and apoptotic positive cells on the granulosa cell layers in the healthy follicles of pregnant cows appeared less than on those of cyclic follicles. So these follicles were assessed as weakly active follicles. In large follicles, above positive cells were not nearly appeared but granulosa cell debris were more appeared among the granulosa cells. So these large follicles were assessed as inactvie or atretic follicles. The above findings suggest that small follicles of pregnant phase were weakly active or atretic and large follicles were inactive or atretic.

        한국재래산양(Capra hircus)의 태아 및 신생아의 직장 발달에 관한 형태학적 연구

        The morphological studies on the rectal development in the 60-, 90- and 120-day-old fetuses and neonates of Korean native goats were investigated by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The rectal wall appeared to be differentiated into the epithelium, lamina propria, tunica muscularis and serosa in 60-day-old fetus. The rectal epithelia were stratified in some areas and simple columnar in others at 60- and 90-day-old fetuses but was only observed simple columnar epithelium at 120-day-old fetus. The goblet cells and the intestinal glands appeared in the rectal mucosa at 90-day-old fetus and gradually increase in number during gestation period. The rectal villi appeared at 60-day-old fetus and increased in length and width until 90-day-old fetus but the villi appeared to be shorter and degenerated after 120-day-old fetus. Only the rudiment trace of the villi remained at birth. The tunica muscularis of the rectum were continuously developed during gestation period. The inner circular and outer longitudinal muscle layers of rectum were observed in the 120-day-old fetuses. Under scanning electron microsoopy, the rectal villi appeared at 60-day-old fetus. The pentagonal/hexagonal microridges and numerous microvilli were observed on the luminal surface of rectal wall. Low and thumb-like rectal villi were developed at 90-day-old fetus. The rectal villi became degenerated after 120-day-old fetus. Only the rudiment of villi was remained at birth. Many circular folds were well developed. Opening portions of intestinal glands appeared like slot.

        한우의 임신경과에 따른 황체조직의 광학 및 전자현미경적 변화

        Corpus luteum (CL) is the primary productive organ of progesterone in pregnant cows. Progesterone levels in bovine plasma depend on the volume, weight and shape of the CL. Progesterone productions during the late stages of gestation occur both in the CL and placenta, and placentas producted more progesterone than CL on progesterone prcduction. Because division of progesterone production of these two organs is impoxxible, the CL function can not be determined by plasma progesterone levels following gestation stages. This study was carried out to evaluate histological findings on the CL spurium and CL verum, and also on the CL following the pregnant stages by histological and immunohistochemical and electron microscopical methods and then we expect to assume the functions of CL by histological findings. 1. Proliferations of luteal cells occur by day 120 of gestation, vessel hyperplasia occur by day 90 of gestation, and the walls and lumens of vessels developed by day 120 of pregnancy. 2. Sizes of CL cells increased to maximum around day 200 of gestation and similarly maintained by day 240. So these findings indicated that the function of Cl is most active around day 200 of gestation. 3. On parturation day, the number and size of luteal cells were maintained but stain intensity of the luteal cells and vessels are declined or disappeared, and fibrosis of luteal cells increased, and the vessel lumens are emptied. These findings indicate that CL is inactive. 4. In immunohistochemical findings, proliferative positive cells by PCNA antibody appeared more in number during early stages of gestation but appeared less following course of pregnant stages and not nearly appeared on day 120 of gestation. Apoptotic positive cells by TUNEL methods not nearly appeared on the early pregnant stages and a few appeared at late pregnant stages. So developments of CL proceed until day 120 of gestation and regression of CL was occurred by transform of luteal cells into fibrocytes than by luteal cell apoptosis. 5. In electron microscopical findings, the size of luteal cells increased more in CL verum than in CL spurium. During gestation stages, the size of luteal cells increased, mitochondria in the luteal cell cytoplasms densely and abundantly developed and also swelled mitochondria increased. The interspace of luteal cells are also dilated, transformation of luteal cells into fibrocytes are more number. The lumens and walls of peripheral capillaries of large luteal cells more broadened and thickened, and transformation of large and small luteal cells to fibrocytes are increased. The above findings suggest that function of pregnant CL more developed by day 120 of gestation and are most active around day 200 of gestation and similarly maintained by day 240 and are promptly regressed on paturation day.
