This study aims to propose a design thinking-based education program for capstone design courses in architectural engineering, which is based on a design thinking process proposed by d.school, Stanford University. In order to measure of the impacts of the proposed education program, it was applied to a capstone design course in 2017 and a set of questionnaire was distributed to students who attended the course. As the results, Both the satisfaction and learning performance levels of the proposed design thinking-based education program were slightly higher than those of the traditional education program.

This paper aimed to identify potential opportunities of building information modeling (BIM) utilization for construction risk management. Construction risk factors and BIM functions were derived through conducting in-depth literature review. Nineteen construction risk factors could be resolved by various BIM functions. Phase planning, site analysis, design authoring, and 3D design coordination were identified as the most efficient BIM functions for construction risk management.
로지스틱 회귀분석을 이용한 BIM 설계 검토에 의하여 발견된 설계 오류와 그 영향도간의 관계 분석

This paper aims to analyze relations between design errors prevented by building information modeling (BIM)-based design validation and their impacts in order to identify critical consideration factors for successfully implementing BIM-based design validation in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) projects. More than 800 design errors detected by BIM-based design validation in two BIM-based projects in South Korea are categorized according to its causes and work types. The relations between causes and work types of design errors and project delay, cost overrun, low quality, and rework generation that can be caused by the errors are analyzed through conducting logistic regression. Characteristics of each design error are analyzed by conducting face-to-face interviews with practitioners in the two BIM-based projects. As the results, the impacts of design error causes on predicting project delay, cost overrun, low quality, and rework generation were the highest.

This paper proposes a process to calculate the amount of construction and demolition (C&D) of underground vertical extension methods through considering the characteristics of used construction and demolished materials. The underground vertical extension methods analyzed in this paper were the bottom-up, normal top-down, and top-down methods with multi-post downward (MPD). In order to check the applicability of the proposed process, 24 illustrative examples were generated. The amount of C&D waste of the illustrative examples were calculated and compared. As the results, the top-down method with MPD was the most efficient method to reduce the amount of C&D waste.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) 설계 검토를 통한 온실가스 배출량 절감 효과 분석

This paper proposes a methodology to analyze the impacts of building information modeling (BIM)-based design validation on reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in architecture, engineering, and construction projects. In order to validate the applicability of the proposed methodology, case studies of two BIM-based projects in South Korea were conducted. Through the BIM-based design validation process, 381 and 136 design errors were detected and 108 and 21 rework were prevented in Case 1 and Case 2, respectively. As the results, 384.2 tonne (0.5%) and 79.9 tonne (0.7%) of total GHG that might be emitted in the production stage of construction materials of the two projects were prevented by BIM-based design validation.

BIM 성과평가란 건설프로젝트에 BIM을 도입했을 때, 개별적인 BIM 프로젝트로부터 얻어진 긍정적인 효과(예: 공기단축, 공사비 절감, 생산성 향상 등)를 평가하는 것을 의미한다. 본 연구에서는 BIM 성과평가도구가 국내에서 어떤 방향으로 개발되어야 하는지를 분석하기 위하여, 국내 BIM 전문가 자문을 통해 BIM 성과평가도구의 개발목적, 특성, 문제점에 대한 질의 항목을 도출하고, 4차에 걸쳐 실무자에게 설문을 배포, 회수 하였다. 회수된 결과를 통계적으로 분석하여 분야, 경력에 따른 각 항목들의 시각 차이를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 분야, 경력에 따라 BIM성과평가도구의 개발목적, 특성, 문제점에 대해 유의미한 관점 차이를 보였다. 이를 바탕으로 향후 BIM평가도구 개발 시 고려사항을 도출하였다. The purpose of this study is to suggest the development direction of a BIM performance assessment tool. To do this, a series of focused group interviews were conducted with BIM experts in South Korea regarding the objective, characteristic, potential problems of a BIM performance assessment tool. A survey questionnaire was developed based on the focused group interviews and distributed to practitioners through four different occasions. The survey results showed that there were the significant differences between practitioners by their field and years of experience about the objective, characteristic, potential problems of a BIM performance assessment tool. Based on the survey results, the consideration factors for developing a BIM performance assessment tool was suggested.
팀 기반 학습을 이용한 건축시공 교육의 학습효과 및 만족도 분석

This study aims to quantitatively analyze impacts of the team-based learning (TBL) method on learning of architectural engineering students. A TBL-based education program, consisted of preparation, readiness assurance, and application phases, was proposed by considering characteristics of architectural engineering education in South Korea and was applied in building construction classes. In order to measure learning effects and satisfaction levels of the proposed TBL-based education program, a set of questionnaires was conducted with students who took the building construction classes. As the results, learning effects and satisfaction levels of the TBL-based approach were higher than those of traditional approaches. Individual and team readiness assurance tests in the readiness assurance phase were the most effective and satisfactory items, while assessment in the application phase was the least effective and satisfactory item.
