AI 시대 시민교양교육으로서 미디어리터러시 교육의 실제와 방향성 탐색

This study aimed to explore the direction of media literacy education needed in our society amid the proliferation of fake information and fake news in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). To achieve this, the study conducted media literacy education and fact-checking group activities in three high schools located in Busan. The goal was to analyze the characteristics observed during these activities and understand their significance. Through media literacy education, students learned to distinguish between fake news and misinformation, recognizing the importance of critical thinking in this regard. In other words, students confirmed the importance of identifying information through critical analysis. They were able to understand the source and context of information, allowing them to judge the validity of information through critical analytical skills. It is expected that such media literacy education will contribute to fostering the ability to judge accurate information from a balanced perspective in the complex societal issues of the AI era.

Analyzing The New York Times Editorials on Social Distancing During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected our society, and the media has played a crucial role in shaping the public's understanding of the crisis. As a social institution, the media constructs and disseminates information about the pandemic, providing interpretations of the complexities of reality such as social distancing. To examine how media construct stories about social distancing during the pandemic, this study analyzed The New York Times editorial articles published during the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing word-association network analysis and cluster analysis based on Convergence of Iterated Correlations analysis, this study examined 653 editorials published in The New York Times regarding social distancing in the period spanning January 27, 2020, to January 4, 2023. The word-association network analysis revealed that the most salient keywords in the editorials were “COVID”, “People”, and “Virus.” Cluster analysis identified four major discussions constructed in the text: "The Impact of Science and Politics on Public Benefit," "Challenges of the COVID-19 Pandemic," "Government Responses to Combat the Spread of the COVID-19," and "Impact of the COVID-19 on Daily Lives in New York." The findings indicated that the most frequently employed keywords revolved around the pandemic and the associated governmental responses. Furthermore, the media narratives concerning social distancing were predominantly framed around the salience of government interventions, scientific strategies, and the role of social distancing.

하이퍼로컬 미디어로서의 지역 주간신문의 가치와 방향성에 관한 탐구 : 경남지역을 중심으로

코로나19 팬데믹으로 인한 대면 소통의 제한은 일상 정보의 중요성을 절실히 느끼게 했다. 지역 미디어는 다양한 사회적 요인으로 인해 전문성과 다양성이 줄어들고 있다. 이로인해 지역 미디 어의 소멸 가능성이 커졌다. 지역 주간신문은 오랫동안 지역 정보를 전달해 온 경험과 지식을 바탕으로, 하이퍼로컬 미디어의 가치를 실현해 왔으나, 비즈니스 모델 변화와 다양한 미디어와 의 경쟁 등으로 인해 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 연구는 지역 주간신문이 가진 하이퍼로컬 가치 실현과 생존 방안을 찾고자, 신문 독자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 이를 토대로 텍스 트마이닝 분석과 질적 분석을 통해 지역 주간신문이 지역성 구축과 지역공동체의 활성화를 위한 중요한 도구임을 확인하였으며, 하이퍼로컬 미디어로의 지향이 지역 주간신문의 생존전략 중 하 나라는 사실을 발견했다. 또한, 지역 주간신문이 하이퍼로컬 미디어로 자리 잡기 위해서는 지역 성을 유지하고, 지역공동체를 중심으로 한 스토리텔링, 지역주민의 일상을 반영한 뉴스 제공, 지역 권력에 대한 대항 보도, 미디어 플랫폼의 다양화 등이 필요하다는 의견을 도출하였다. 특히 지역 독자들은 지역 주간신문의 디지털화보다 생활 친화적 뉴스와 정보제공을 더 선행되어야 할 과제로 여긴다는 연구 결과는 지역 주간신문 정책에 의미 있는 시사점을 제공한다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the current situation of the local media and provide suggestions for the development directions through the comparison with Japanese local cable broadcasting. This study suggests that local broadcasting establish its position as community based media by strengthening its functions as a local service providers and functioning as an emergency call system in a disastrous situation.

미디어 로컬리즘 변동에 따른 지역미디어리터러시 교육의 방향성 모색

There is an emerging concern of local communities losing their vitality due to the declines of such elements as population, sense of landownership, local media, and human networks. Local community regeneration requires a new alliance that will help increase the merit of the local communities as living spaces. Aiming to provide educational practice guidelines for vitalizing local communities, this study conceptualized local media literacy as a civic education that can build future identities for local communities by recognizing a region as a living space constituted by an alliance among local communities, local residents, and local media. Considering such a conceptualization is an explorative work, this study adopted an in-dept interview with the professionals in each area as a method of gathering qualitative data. Although the way the experts perceive local media literacy was diverse, there existed a common perception on the need of local collaborative journalism based on the alliance among local media, local residents, local civic groups, and local governments. The interview results suggested that local media literacy can be conceptualized as the process of media practices that help the realization of grass-root democracy by the interactions between the local communities and local media based on the fundamental understanding of the two parties. Furthermore, the results suggested that the educational directions can be enacted in several areas such as competence in understanding media, competence in media use, competence in media reflection, competence in media practice. 인구감소, 주민의 토지 귀속의식의 약화, 지역 미디어의 쇠퇴, 사회적 인적 네트워크 기능의 상실 등으로 인해 지역이 소멸하고 있다는 우려가 있다. 지역 재생을 위해서는 생활 거점으로서 매력을 높이고, 새로운 연대의 필요성이 강력히 요구되는 시점이다. 본 연구에서는 지역 활성화를 위해, 지역사회, 지역민, 지역 미디어 간의 연대를 통한 삶의 공간으로서 지역을 인식하고 미래의 정체성을 만들어 갈 수 있는 시민교육으로 지역 미디어 리터러시 개념화하고 이를 바탕으로 한 교육 실천 방안을 제시하고자 했다. 연구 방법으로는 처음 시도되는 개념화 작업이라, 각 분야의 전문가를 중심으로 심층 인터뷰를 했다. 인터뷰 결과, 지역미디어리터러시를 지역사회와 지역 미디어의 기본적인 이해를 바탕으로, 지역사회와 지역 미디어가 상호작용을 통해 풀뿌리 민주주의를 실현할 수 있도록 하는 미디어 실천 과정이라 개념화했다. 이런 과정을 통해 지역사회, 지역 미디어, 지역민들 간의 친밀도를 높이고 신뢰를 쌓아 협업할 수 있는 근거를 제시했다. 또한 교육 방향성에 관해서는, 조사 결과를 바탕으로 미디어 이해, 미디어 사용 능력, 미디어 성찰 능력, 미디어 실천 등의 영역으로 나누어 구체화했다.
