This study was performed to figure out the characteristics of concentration and profile pattern of Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants(UPOPs; PCDD/DFs, DLPCBs, HxCB) in the ambient air, atmospheric deposition and soil in Ulsan area. The correlation among the concentration of the ambient UPOPs, depositing velocity, flux and other meteorological factors was examined during the ambient process of the UPOPs. Furthermore, deposition flux from the ambient to the surface was calculated to estimate the contribution of deposition to soil pollution. The result shows that the annual deposition flux from the ambient to the soil in Ulsan was 4.6 ng WHO-TEQ/m2/year, 3.3ng WHO-TEQ/m2/year and 0.2ng van Birgelen98-TEQ /m2/year, respectively. The total amount of UPOPs fluxing into the ground from the ambient air was estimated as 10.9 g TEQ/year. In this study, deposition flux value of TEQ exceeds the European guideline or limit. The profile patterns of UPOPs in the ambient-deposition-soil were similar. From the study, the importance of the soil pollution by the deposition through the atmospheric process of pollutants exhausted from the sources was proved.
부산지역 강우의 화학적 특성 I. pH 및 주요이온의 시ㆍ공간적 변화

The chemical characteristics of precipitation was investigated in Pusan area. Samples were collected from January to November in 1996 at 4 sites, and analyzed pH, major soluble ionic components(C $l^{[-10]}$ , N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_4$$^{2-}$, N $a^{+}$, $K^{+}$, N $H_4$$^{+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$). The order of anion and cation concentrations for the initial precipitation were C $l^{[-10]}$ > S $O_4$$^{2-}$ > N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , and $Ca^{2+}$ > N $a^{+}$ > N $H_4$$^{+}$ > $Mg^{2+}$ > $K^{+}$, respectively. At coastal sites(P1 and P2) C $l^{[-10]}$ and N $a^{+}$ of maritime sources (seasalt) were high, but at inland sites(P3 and P4) nss-C $a^{2+}$ and nss-S $O_4$$^{2-}$ were high. Calcium ion for the initial precipitation showed high value of enrichement factor(EF) relative to seawater composition. The contribution of seasalt to the composition of precipitation was higher at bite P1 (53.5%) than those of the other sites. Throughout the year the concentrations of major ions for the initial precipitation were low in the heavy rain season. The mean pH for the initial precipitation was 5.4 and showed the negative relationship with the precipitaion amount. The S $O_4$$^{2-}$ and N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ do not play an important role in rain acidification due to the high(97%) neutralizing effect of amonia and calcium species.and calcium species.
동해남부 대마난류계에서의 염소화 Biphenyls 의 분포특성

In order to investigate the distribution characteristics of polychlorinated Biphenyls(PCBs) at the southern of Korean East Sea, vertical measurements of temperature, salinity, DO and PCBs were performed by each depth of 5 stations during August-October 1996. Thermocline and salinocline were generally existed at depth of 30m and wafer mass current of midwater in the southern of Korean East Sea was distributed below 30m depth. The distribution of surface water mass in this area was extended to Tsusima area from the southern offshore of the Korean East Sea. In August 1996, concentration range of PCBs had 0.22-0.36ng/ℓ at surface layer and their concentrations at near Tsusima offshore were relatively decreased. Total mean concentration of PCBs was 0.29ng/ℓ in the sea surface and 0.31ng/ℓ in the middle layer. PCBs seemed to correlate well with suspended particles. And vertical and horizontal distribution of their concentrations showed comparatively uniform pattern. Relatively high compositional ratio of Di- and Tri-PCBs could be found at the sea surface, while compositional ratio of Penta-PCBs dominates over other congener at deep layer.
