Some hydraulic experiments have been conducted in order to grasp quantitatively an effectiveness of wake region created behind artificial reefs and then a new conceptual artificial reef was proposed. The effectiveness of wake region was evaluated in terms of size and material exchange rate. The size of wake region was analyzed by Reynolds stress and a material exchange rate was measured through a dye injection experiment. According to experimental results for artificial reefs having a log fame, the size of wake region was the biggest when an interval between log frames was 0. A material exchange rate was the biggest when an interval between log frames was 0.5 time of a diameter of log. Newly proposed artificial reef seemed to bring plenty of nutrients to stay longer compared with previous artificial reefs since new artificial reefs can support more stable wake region.

This study describes the optimum structure and deployment of abalone reefs in shallow waters. The structure of an abalone reef was analyzed based upon the functions of both feeding and shelter. Deployments of abalone reefs were considered based upon the stability against waves in waters shallower than 5 m. Also, the calculation of their stabilities was made to only rocks of abalone modules, and exposure coefficient of rocks used was 1.0 and 0.5. The results show that rocks of both 0.2 and 0.5 ton are unstable under the condition that exposure coefficient is 1.0 at a depth of 5 m, but that they are stable under the condition that exposure coefficient is 0.5.

본 연구에서는 저질의 전단응력값응 이용하여 인공어초 시설예정지에 대한 침하량을 간편하게 예측할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다. 조사는 전남바다목장 지역 내의 5개 조사 정점에서 실시하였다. 조사결과, 표층 퇴적물의 입도분포는 6~8Ø 로 실트와 점토(clay)의 비율이 비슷한 니(Mud)이었고, 전단응력은 5 ㎝ 깊이에서 0.34~4.58 kPa, 20 ㎝ 깊이에서 2.59~6.57 kPa로 각각 나타났다. 이 값은 인공어초가 시설된 비슷한 저질 특성을 갖는 연구 결과와 비교하였을 때, 단위면적당(㎡) 약 3.3톤 이하로 재하된 인공어초에 대해서는 어느 정도 침하에 대해 허용한계 값 내에 존재한다고 추정된다.

Installation position and state of 34,407 artificial reefs were surveyed over 4,762㏊ at Goheong coastal in middle-south sea of Korea from 1973 to 2003. 27,835 artificial reefs among total installed reefs were found out (80.9%), confirmed destroy rate of 0.6~1.2% by artificial reef type, and the most overturning rate of 5.5% was shown from Hemispheric reefs. Wastes such as fishing net or fish pot amount to 7.2t, and those were all removed by diver.

Waste were removed from artificial reefs of 6 type at Goheung in middle-south coast, Korea. The most much waste amount was removed in jumbo reefs which have complicated shape with 1,859 ㎏/㏊, contrary, waste amount at steel reef for soft sea-bottom was the most little with 121 ㎏/㏊. Waste in artificial reefs fishing ground was dominant combustibility waste. According to the correlation analysis, correlation-coefficient on amount waste and velocity showed significantly low with 0.003.
